In a couple of week’s time I am travelling for my first time on the A310 from Heathrow to Ercan in Northern Cyprus with the Turkish Airlines subsidiary KTHY. I am lucky enough to be flying an A310 (or unlucky enough for 6 hours) but I know very little on the aircraft. What is it like to fly on as a passenger? I have heard some bad reports so I’m just wondering what you think of the aircraft from passengers’ point of view?
Thoughts/opinions appreciated 🙂

That Paradise livery is the nicest I have seen on the A310.

Interflug, yes I know about the flights, we are only scheduled to Izmir from Heathrow and then Ercan becomes a different flight code when we arrive in Turkey.

well experiencing A310s alot with AI and Swissair, i find the aircraft very cramped and too compressed for my liking.

I’ve always enjoyed flying on the A310…and yes, a fat 767 is a good way of thinking about it 😀

Saab, You’ll like the place, its less “frantic ” than the south and I guess less developed although I have been to the south as well and really enjoyed it. Just a footnote…..When the flights first started from STN we were never allowed to use Ercan in the boarding calls, we had to use the phrase ” To Istanbul and onwards” ( Sounds like a B movie title!) I don’t know if thats still the case. Political reasons apparently.

Oh excellent Interflug, I didn’t think anybody would have travelled them 🙂 Was it to Ercan that you travelled? I had heard mixed reports so I was a bit daunted about travelling them, not your average everyday airline after all.
Anyway, thanks all for the information, I am actually looking forward now to the A310 aircraft now. I have taken the impression of the “fat 767” as a guidance 😉 Kabir, I seem to have forgotten why you despise the aircraft, why exactly is that if you don’t mind me asking?
LBARULES, I heard it was totally different to the south in terms of being unspoilt and much more attractive due to the lack of tourism. From brochures it looks splendid, very picturesque. I suppose, however, it will be an up and coming tourist destination in the future though at the moment because of political reasons and also travel reasons (there is a 45 minute stopover in Turkey for passports), it has been relatively left out. In the future let’s hope that they don’t succumb to mass tourism or at the least get it right in terms of infrastructure and tourist amenities unlike so many resorts have.

Saab..I have flown on the same route but from STN on the KTHY A310. It was a good trip, the catering and crew were great although we suffered a long ATC delay outbound. The aircraft was clean and tidy but with a little of that “been around the block a few times” feel. All in all, a lovely ride…enjoy.

Cabin width is standard Airbus widebody (300/310/330/340) so I’d think comfort really depends how the airline configured the plane.
Think of it as a fat 767!

Hope you have a great time Saab. Been to Cyprus 4 times myself but never to the north. If its as good as the south youll have a great time!

Yes Bhoy, those were the reports I was remembering 😉

yeah, I had a return flight with Swissair on a 310 back in ’90, can’t recall anything to complain about as a pax.
As far as bad reports, they all seem to be coming from Kabir, and we all know what he thinks of Airbus a/c, anyway… 😉

I flew a couple of them back in the 90’s when DL was still operating former PanAm’s ones.
That’s a nice plane and I found it quite confortable.
I flew a couple AF as well.
But you most of the confort comes from the layout chosen by the airline
