Thinking of going on holiday to Grand Bahama next year. Choice of flights … HELP! (please)
1)
Fly direct with JMC , aircraft = ??
I am told that JMC do not have PTV’s , and you have to pay £2.50 for headphones!! No free drinks, little choice of food. Seat pitch is apparently 30 inches.
2)
Fly to Miami with Virgin Atlantic , aircraft = ??
Then to Freeport with BahamasAir , aircraft = 727-200 or Dash-8
Been told that Virgin offer a great flight to Miami, as long as you’re not in one of the 747-200’s. Seat pitch is unknown, though.
The direct flight is more immediately appealing (and £100 cheaper), but that lack of PTV’s could sway me … can anyone confirm what aircraft are used on these routes, and seat pitch ?
I have tried my travel agent , worse than useless – I know more than they do, and that’s just searching the Net for a minutes… 🙂
Thanx!!

RE: Flying to Freeport (Grand Bahama)
I’m never bothered about PTVs anyway. Frequent flyer miles are good with BA though, and their Club World is absolutely fantastic for a big airline.

RE: Flying to Freeport (Grand Bahama)
As far as I am aware JMC fly out of Gatwick to Freeport and Nassau using their A330 aircraft. The A330 does have PTV’s throughout the aircraft so you should be OK.
BA still do fly to Nassau out of Heathrow and currently use 763s which we discussed in another thread as not having PTVs.
There are also flights to Freeport from Manchester.

Yeah….. I think the arrangement was primarily with BA and Flying Colours Airlines, which inturn got passed to JMC Airlines. I recall the arrangment being BA supplied the aircraft and flight crew, Flying Colours supplied the cabin crew on long-haul/caribbean routes.
As for the JMC premium cabin, its called JMC+ and you should really read my JMC flight review for an idea on service etc (was however on a different aircraft – 757 not A330 with premium cabin).

I was at Gatwick about 5 months ago Mongu. I think BA served Nassau from there aswell.
What I meant about the BA B777 was that did JMC use or hire (or some sort of arrangement) a BA B777 for long haul operations before their A330s arrived?

RE: Flying to Freeport (Grand Bahama)
BA would be my choice. They fly to nearby islands such as Cayman, Barbados etc. They certainly USED to fly LHR-Nassau with 767-300s.
How about biz class with JMC? I expect their long haul flights have a proper premium cabin.

RE: Flying to Freeport (Grand Bahama)
The JMC aicraft will probably be an A330 unless its another airline flying the route and JMC just sell seats on another company’s aircraft. In that case (Britannia, Air 2000 or My Travel) it could be a B767 or an A330. (was there also somthing about a BA B777 ?)
The Virgin a/c will most probably be a B747 (varient-your guess is as good as mine) because they are used predominantly on USA flights.
So…you are really prepared to pay an extra £100 so you can watch a PTV for 9 hours over the pond?… well I suppose the 2nd itinerary sounds much more interesting.

I would go with Virgin as for long haul you should take the best possible option. Plus its always fun to travel in these small airlines like Bahamasair.
