Almost on a spur of the moment fly-in, I took up an offer to get my bum in the air and went flying today. This was in a newly restored Taylorcraft and the weather was excellent for late October. Indeed the Solent was awash with yachts racing.
We spent an hour flying down from Daventry to Sandown on the Isle of Wight where we all had coffee and full englishes. Then onto Popham for more coffee, saying hello to Al Coutts, Melvyn Hiscock and Irv Lee.

Great day out 😎

It is closed during the week and there is a coffee machine. Limited service at weekends.

Thanks for that, can’t imagine going to see Dick without having a coffee!

They were serving on Sunday and the barbie was being fired up when we left.

Is it true that the canteen has closed at Popham…………..Shame.

I got my LownSlows mixed up
Hmmm. Maybe time for a name change then? 😮
I looked at a Taylorcraft (or three), before stumbling across the Pushpak. They’re nice aeroplanes. The Pushpak flies a little slower due to its bigger wing and its quite a bit heavier.
I guess the best way of describing it, is that the Pushpak does on 90hp what a Taylorcraft will do on 65. But I love it anyway!

BR, I think you will find the ‘Pak replaced G-ASML the Minor…

Is the ‘pak a replacement for the J1 then?
I’m really sold on the Taylorcraft. 100mph indicated on 65hp, STOL with two-heavies and (I guess) three hours of fuel at 3.5gph 😀

Is that the Pushpak I saw at Priory Farm last weekend? It was interesting to compare it to the Aeronca.
I managed to squeeze in a 30 minute bimble around Norfolk just before dusk after having been turned upside down a few times earlier in the afternoon…
It was/is. Now relocated to Bicester after a few weeks waiting for paperwork, then a suitable weather window.
Bicester thankfully has a bit more space for me to learn its ground handling characteristics. It’s a delight to fly, but it’s got a bit more inertia than a Luton Minor! 😀

Hi Low, wondered if you were about. Did you see the Miles Gemini and whatever else it was flying with? They caught us up at Bicester.

Lovely pictures BlueRobin. The formation looked good passing abeam Bicester yesterday afternoon on your way back home!
Meanwhile I was busy learning the Pushpak’s handing quirks, plus getting some nice pictures take from Arthur Mason’s Pietenpol too! Thanks Anna!! 🙂

Popham was, indeed, a good place to be today.
At one point the Rearwin, Ian Logan’s Airmaster and the White Waltham Porterfield were parked in a line. All were built within fifty miles of each other, in some cases by the same workforce!

Nice pics – looks like a great day out.
Me? I mowed the lawns. 😡

Great, pretty snappy in the posting as well, obviously better weather than we had today! 🙂

Excellent, nice to hear there are still some able to go on flying trips despite the shorter daylight hours.
