Some of you may have noticed a brief mention in FlyPast of the recent discovery of the remains of a Mosquito night fighter, during excavations for the construction of a warehouse on the outskirts of Milton Keynes. A memorial to the crew will be unveiled when the warehouse is handed over to its owners, John Lewis, sometime in August this year.
The families of both crew members have been traced, and will attend the unveiling, with some coming from as far away as Canada. It would be fantastic if the ceremony could include a fly past.
A very long shot I know, but is there an aircraft owner out there who might be willing to honour the lost airmen in this way? There is no money available, we would be asking you to do it purely for the sake of their memories.
Any takers please?

For anyone who wants to see the news item, the link is:
http://www.itvlocal.com/anglia/news/?player=ANG_news_26&void=101039
If it doesn’t load directly, go to the Anglia Local News West section on the right and select Saturday Evening News 22/9/07 in the list. It’s the last item on the bulletin.

Big congratulations Steve.
To the “Bulldoggers” for the flypast and especially, to you for organising it!
A great example of aviation enthusiasts “doing their bit”.

Rob,
As the organiser of the event, I am gathering photographs from various sources, and the families will of course receive copies of them, including your relation.
If you wish to have some yourself, please send me a private message.

Hi
Been a “lurker” here for quite a while and I had to post on this one as the gentleman doing the unveiling in the above photos is my mum’s cousin.
We only bumped into him in Tesco’s the other week and he was telling me all about going away and I never twigged it was to do with this.
I was posting to see if anyone would be kind enough to supply me with copies of the above photo’s and any others for that matter, of the unveiling, flypast etc so I can pass them on to him as a momentum of the day.
If anyone can contact me to discuss I would be most grateful.
Cheers
Rob

Thanks Trevor and team. It was a great day, and most importantly, the families (some of whom had come all the way from Canada), were very pleased with what we all did.
A few more shots, including representatives of the families performing the unveiling.

Some pictures of the flypast and memorial.
The A2A pictures apart from the last one (Magna Park) are copyright Jayne Barlow. The group picture is copyright Sandy Bole.
Lead aircraft XX537 (North Weald). We had some spare seats so a couple of Cranfield instructors came along for the ride.

The unveiling ceremony was this morning. Steve can fill in the details of the ceremony and ground arrangements.
Despite very strong winds and a not altogether brilliant forecast we assembled our four-ship Bulldog formation at Cranfield and performed a missing man flypast over the memorial at 1150. The missing man aircraft is based at Cranfield, and we felt this was a fitting tribute.
We were invited to attend the lunch afterwards and received a very warm welcome from the veterans and families. It was something we were proud to do, and be able to give a little something back in recognition of those that gave their all.
Hopefully I shall be able to post some pictures later, but as I was leading the formation, they will have to come from other people.

I will give more details once it becomes clear what the on-site arrangements will be, and whether or not visitors can be accommodated. At this stage we are in the hands of the site developers in that regard.
Any news yet Steve??
Brian.

Steve.
Is it possible to publish the date here please or does J/L want it kept “hush hush”.
My work takes me to MK and if it’s mid-week I can arrange a visit while over there.
Thanks.
Brian.

Should be able to do one in a Bulldog. Maybe a two-ship with enough warning if it’s during the week. For a weekend we could probably do a Bulldog three/four-ship.
We did a two-ship (Bulldog and Yak) last September to Wickhambreaux in Kent, where Squadron Leader David Maltby (617 Squadron) is buried. They hold an annual memorial ceremony for relatives of the crew who were killed attended by relatives and aircrew veterans. It was one of the most worthwhile things I’ve done in an aircraft.

Excellent thinking Doughnut, many thanks.

Given the Cranfield connection maybe one of the local opperators might be able to provide an aircraft, or better still, fuel, landing fees, sponorship for a private owned Warbird. Try www.cabair.com
Also dont forget the local air cadets www.cranfieldaircadet.org.co who might want to provide a guard of honor.
best of luck

Looks like it was a local aircraft from Cranfield Denis.
