Flypast Enclosure

My father has got his new copy of Flypast before me this month and it mentions that the there will not be a Flypast members enclosure at any Duxford airshows this year.
What the ell is this all about, and does it also affect the friends of Duxford members?????

I agree with Pete T, only enclosure i enjoyed was years ago at North Weald, once at Waddington (early 90’s) and a couple of years ago at Duxford when they had the South African 747. Even tried the Sally B enclosure last year and ……. well the weather had a say with that didnt it?

duxford news

Today in the post i recieved my ‘duxford news’ magazine, in it is a small footnote about the enclosure at flying legends it reads as this :

‘Friends who have attended duxford’s air shows over recent years will be aware of the fine relationship we have enjoyed with FlyPast and Key Publishing whose subscribers have shared our enclosure at these events. 2006 will however see it ‘flying solo’ in that the enclosure will now be for the sole use of friends of duxford. flypast are considering providing a seperate facility of their own for their subscribers and we will be able to confirm this in the next news’

Take from this what you will but maybe someone is not telling the full story ?

Yep. Me.

Seriously, I’d like to say a big thank you to TFC for their kindness in having us. And gents, it’s going to be rather a special book launch – a rather special book. If I pull my finger out!!

However well done to Friends of TFC who seem to have the interests of the enthusiasts and the historical heritage of the aircraft involved well in hand at this years Legends event. I guess that the 609 signing will provide a few characters who we should all respect.

It does say in the note from Flypast that it’s not their decision, it’s a change of policy by the IWM.

Probably put the ground rent up.
Is it really that much of a loss–it’s one less tent on the flightline and most of you people belong to every organisation there is, so you can use one of the others.

Good,i wish they would get rid of all the flightline clutter, seems as if the “ordinary” punter does’nt deserve a clear view. The added on prices seem to be the norm and if you don’t want them you are 2nd class.

Maybe a good time to mention that Friends of TFC will have their enclosure as usual this year at Legends and as you will see from the latest news update on TFC website, we will be in very good company. Join up and get the flightline walk for free!!

David
I was just highlighting health and safety issues in general, which have become a bit OTT over the last few years.

It doesn’t affect Friends Of Duxford, they will still have a Marquee at the usual location. Maybe it’s time to join?

The only two Flypast enclosures that I actually enjoyed being in were Waddington, 1992? when my old man had a good old chat with Ken Ellis and sat right in the middle and front of the crowd line, and North Weald, the year the two Bf109’s formed up with the BBMF flight, when it was situated up the south end of the runway, otherwise, forget it, especially at DX.

I wonder if it’s got anything to do with health and safety issues.

I guess it comes down to perceived value and outreach to it’s readers – maybe a tent at Shuttleworth?

I guess the bourbon budget was getting too high?

I blame Moggy…

Is it just Duxford there won’t be a Flypast enclosure, or other shows as well? (Think Flypast has had enclosures at Waddington and Elvington before, am I right?)
