On that date I was still 53 days away from being born, so am a little hazy; the way my mother spoke, I’d always thought it referred to the first raid, in Scotland, but had never seen any evidence until now (unless, of course, the Luftwaffe had a thing about rabbits, and there was more than one incident.)

I had never heard that, Edgar! Interesting.

I have an original sepia-toned press print in my collection. The incident was 16 August 1940. I suppose the question is; when did Flannagan & Allen write their song?

Possibly of interest to some, but I remember my mother telling me that the rabbit, in the photo on page 83, was the inspiration for the Flanagan & Allen song “Run, Rabbit, Run.”

In the item on the Burma Spitfire dig, flypast says XIV’s were built at Castle Bromwich, this is not the case, all contracts for XIV’s were with Supermarine in factories in the south of England .
