FlyWho Update

What a surprise eh….. http://www.flywho.com/default.asp

The Board of BluArrow Aviation Ltd has reluctantly come to the decision that we are no longer able to proceed with our June 2005 start date.

Our ATOL-licensed partner had originally agreed to a programme of charter flights to Florida and would be responsible for the sale of all the seats. All reservations would have been effected with them and protected accordingly. Sadly, they failed to commit to the contract in necessary practical ways within an appropriate timescale, which has resulted in the suspension of this programme until further notice.

We apologise most sincerely if this has affected your plans.

All existing passengers have been re-accommodated on other carriers and we will not be taking any further booking requests until we are 200% sure we have the right ATOL partner to undertake the passenger-protection role.

We have not ‘gone bust’ or ‘ceased trading’!

We have been let-down and are actively seeking a new partner to take on the responsibility of handling the flywho sales for Florida and this has set us back a number of months.

Please be assured that the project is still going ahead and we are determined, now more than ever, to be fully operational in the future.

In the ruthless industry that is Commercial Aviation, things rarely go to plan for start ups.
At least they’re giving it a good go and not letting dissapointing setbacks get them down.

I’ve been trying to stick up for Flywho and I will continue to do so but yes it would be nice if they had a news section on their website giving us updates on their current situation because without people end up checking the website just to see if anything at all has changed.

Now this has happened and with no information forthcoming we can all only assume what the problem is, setting up an airline isn’t easy!

I really do hope they get off the ground :).

Looks like 8th July start-up for Flywho is out of the window (again!).

Their website is now showing first flight as being July 29th, yet more delays! Can’t imaging what their potential passengers must be making of it all.

Do we think they’ll make the 29th July?!

Thought I post this from Travelmole, which I recieved this morning.

Flywho aims for July flights to Florida

Start-up carrier Flywho has set a date in July for its first flights from Birmingham to Florida.

The airline, which has had a number of false starts since outlining its plans two years ago, aims to run a weekly service to St Petersburg-Clearwater from July 27, with Orlando Sandford starting on July 8.

Flywho’s launch is being supported by a month-long sales blitz to more than 200 agents in the Midlands by the Florida west coast destination’s convention and visitors bureau.

Spokesman Geoff Radcliffe said: “We are extremely excited that Flywho has chosen St Petersburg/Clearwater as a destination and it underlines the popularity of our area to the UK market. Last year we welcomed over 600,000 UK visitors. It also follows the successful trend of developing flights from regional airports.”

Flywho plans a two-class ‘super economy’ service to Florida including flights to Orlando Sanford. Lead-in return prices quoted on its website start at £449.

Under its previous guise as FlyBlu, the long haul, long cost airline originally planned to start serving Florida in summer 2004 but plans were thwarted when a financial backer pulled out. Attempts to get the service off the ground last summer also came to nothing.

Report by Phil Davies

Don’t know what you think, but I think people are going to be sick of FlyWho even before they have got off the ground because they are not providing any useful updated information. If it had said that there had been a huge demand in bookings, then I could understand it, but they are just recycling the same old hype that has already been stated.

Come on guys at FlyWho at least give us something new to read, please!

It will be all change again in a couple of weeks, maybe it will be Boeing 747’s next time, That’s 767, A310, Tristar and back to 767’s.

I wish them all the best of luck, but I am still not sure about this outfit.

Another update from Flywho on the BHX website….

Book Flywho And Make It Snappy!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/future_pilot17/305.jpg

Aden Murcutt, the CEO of brand new long haul airline, Flywho, was at Birmingham International Airport this week reminding travellers that it is not too late to book Florida this summer; but to make it snappy because with return fares starting from as little as £395 (inc tax), it would be foolish to leave it any later…….alligator!

The new flights will launch on Saturday 8th July, offering three non-stop services – Orlando-Sanford each Tuesday and Saturday, and St Petersburg-Tampa Bay each Thursday.

Not surprisingly, Florida still sits on top as the UK’s favourite long-haul holiday destination because of its year round temperate climate, beautiful beaches, crazy theme parks and natural splendour around the Everglades region. Appreciating this, Aden Murcutt has also formed a new specialist tour operator called GoVisitAmerica.com to provide people with tailored made packages complete with accommodation, car hire, insurance and even advanced access to some of Florida’s most exciting attractions.

Flywho services will operate all year round using a 168 seat Boeing 767 mixed cabin aircraft and offers the world’s longest legroom. The Silver cabin (economy) will have up to 38 inch seat-pitch and 7 seats abreast. The Gold cabin (business/premium) will house a massive 45 inch and 6 abreast seat arrangement.

Comfort is an important element of travelling long-haul and Flywho’s concept offers a variety of key differences to improve customers’ journeys, including ample leg room in both cabins, exceptional menus and fine wines, plus state-of-the-art individual entertainment systems for all passengers. Those travelling in the Gold cabin can enjoy added benefits of dedicated check-in, increased luggage allowance, priority baggage service and executive lounge access. Children under 14 years will have their own menu and ‘kids’ pack, and all adults will receive a stylish amenity kit on board flights.

Passengers can book mixed routes for outbound and return, with return prices starting from £395 (inc tax) in the Silver cabin, and £649 (inc tax) in the Gold cabin. Those interested in booking flights can visit either www.flywho.com, www.govisitamerica.com, or call 0870 4999 767 between 9am and 6pm, six days a week.

The most noticable thing is that the aircraft type has changed again to a B767 (presumably -300). It seems BHX is very eager to give Flywho as much ublicity as they can.
Only a couple of months away from the launch date now…

Read somewhere they where going to have Tristars?

James

That would be in the Press Release in the original post 😉 😀 , I’ve heard the rumours of the 767 returning but I guess for now with nothing else mentioned Tristars are still their weapon of choice.

I’ve heard unconfirmed and unsubstantited rumours that this will now be a 767 – any news anyone?

I was under the assumption that they were an airline, not a tour operator…

If not, who are they chartering the aircraft from?

I think you’ll find its a loop hole they are utilising when it comes to bonding new start-up airlines. Its extremely costly to bond their type of operation on a scheduled basis, however, by setting up a tour operator (albeit an in-house company), its cheaper to bond a tour operator based on the number of passengers they expect to travel with them.

A new start up scheduled carrier would have to prove financial security to be able to operate for a number of months without carrying a single fare paying passenger. One could assume that there weren’t enough coppers left in the pot to do this seeing as they’ve gone down the tour operator route.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think they still need an AOC to operate as a charter carrier, unless they doing it under someone elses AOC as so many new start-ups do now.

I have to agree with Tom’s thoughts on this one. I’ll give them 6 months max.
