Fokker 50 down at Nairobi

The Fokker 50 aircraft, which was transporting cargo to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, crashed into a residential building after taking off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, said the airport’s head of police investigations.

Preliminary investigations found the plane was flying low after take-off and might have hit an electrical pole before crashing in the Embakasi area of the city. The plane took off at 4.15am and crashed two minutes later after calling the control tower to say the plane did not gain height, officials said.

No one on the ground was harmed, and the four bodies of those in the plane were recovered.

The Kenya National Disaster Operation Centre said on Twitter that all the victims were male, and they included the flight engineer as well the pilot and two crew members.

ASN records show that it had an engine shutdown a while back, probably unrelated but the possibility exists:

04 JUL 2010 PH-KXX Denim Air nr.1 engine shut down due to oil (pressure, temperature?) fluctuations; returned to Copenhagen, Denmark.

Skyward received this Fokker only two months ago. It left Maastricht on its delivery flight 01/05/14. The previous operator was Denim Air as PH-KXX.
