Brome County Fokker D VII for sale perhaps
By: The Blue Max - 15th November 2006 at 19:13
as already said, joking aside this really is a time warp aeroplane and should be preserved in Canada. Although i prefer to see A/c in there natural element in this case there are many extreemly good reproductions to forfill that role, good luck with saving this rare aeroplane and keeping it where it should be, in Canada.

Since my last post, I have been in contact with a couple of groups that monitor these types of situations.
Suprisingly , they were aware of the a/c but knew very little about what was happening.
Ofcourse, our National Museum is well aware of the a/c and is keeping a close eye on the situation.
Canada has in the past lost some rare a/c but in the last few years we have seen some sales now blocked and groups are coming forward to stem the tide of a/c leaving Canada ie: the Lockheed Constellation in Toronto.
I myself bought and brought back a 1940 Fleet 16B that had been sold to the U.S.
My plan is to keep this a/c in Canada forever.

Joking aside I too believe that it should stay in Canada and be properly looked after as a National treasure.

I hope it stays in Canada guys, its infuriating when “National Treasures” go to other countries. This country is guilty of that in many ways, so good luck u guys. Bex

I think Fleet16B and Steve T have got it right. While there is a clear temptation in the private sector to restore an aeroplane to flight, in a case like this it would inevitably lose much of its originality.
I’m sure that given the right people, the Ottawa project will look like an original and fly like an original, and money from it could be used to ensure the accurate and sympathetic conservation of what is probably a unique “timewarp” aeroplane at Knowlton. Even with the best research and documentation in the world, restorers in the future would love to have a ‘genuine original’ to copy!
Good luck guys!

Hi all–
This is a real, well, Fokker shocker! Just this past June I finally visited Knowlton (Lac-Brome) to see this mythic all-original D.VII. Am now especially pleased to have done so!
I think Fleet16B is correct, though: the D.VII has been on exhibit since the 1920s in its present location, was a war prize (it is the only survivor of a substantial group of German fighters sent to Canada circa 1919), and will, I don’t doubt, become subject to Cultural Property legislation.
Here’s an idea: CAvM at Ottawa have a fairly-well-advanced (but “on hold” for decades in storage) D.VII restoration project. That could be placed on the market, and in turn the Knowlton Fokker–totally original and, suiting the current trend to conserve rather than restore, not requiring much at all to be displayable–could be purchased for the national collection, and nicely round out CAvM’s war-prize grouping (Junkers J.4, AEG G.IV) into the bargain…Just a thought.

This a/c was a war prize given to the people of Canada and IN NO WAY should be sold outside of this country.
I think it will be found to be a cultural property which prohibits it’s sale to other countries.
Lets hope that a group comes forward to stop any foreign sales and that our government takes steps to prevent it’s loss.

Yeah but they are just so common – 😀 – Everyone seems to have one. At least the DVII would be different. And the BE2 v’s DVII would be a unique act… Make a change from SE.5 v’s DR.1… 😀 😀 😀

When I was very young my grandmother -a member-took me to visit the museum. She left me looking at this aircraft to do other things for a short while. I can just rember fragments of this visit. If they can stabalize the problems this historical object should remain where it is but it sounds like “money talks” in this case. I wonder if a deal has already been made. Thank you for posting this-it brings back good memories that I’d not thought of for years.
