Is airline food considered to be dangerous? Do the customs check the catering like they check ordinary passengers bags? I have heard that this particular virus has been going on in africa for many years but when it is europe everyone is more or less hysterical about all this.

RE: Foot and mouth
I think that the “intelligent” humans, are the cause of all the cattle diseases.
Humans want big pieces of meat, richer milk etc.
So they start trying to get fatter cows, pigs and sheep.
and I think this is the way that nature will get back on us!
stop playing with the animals, take them for what they are, don`t use genetic stuff on them,
cause in the end…………….humans will be the victims!
And I love airplanes too! (it`s still anaviation forum!)

RE: Foot and mouth
If the stories are true then both mad cow and foot and mouth started with infected meat products been fed to animals, animals that when I was at school many many years ago we were told eat grass. May be there is a clue their to the farmers. THESE ANIMALS ARE VEGITARIANS NOT MEAT EATERS.
I think we should name this country “#” THE COUNTRY FORMALLY KNOWN AS GREAT BRITAIN

RE: Foot and mouth
Well my view is slightly different, I am from the UK, suppossedly the 4th biggest economy in the world, and one of the richest , so imagine how I feel that my country has this foot and mouth infection, a government who only now realises how serious it is, we even have a railway system thats falling apart,in our so called modern country, we should re-name it third world Britain…how could a infection like this get into a country like this ? and then of course the mad cow infection aswell ??? what a wonderfull country.. ah well at least we have something to be proud of….WE ARE CONSISTANT AT WRECKING OUR IMAGE AROUND THE WORLD.
BYE !

RE: Foot and mouth
Yep that`s the way to get it for a sheep.
The disease can even be spread by air,but only for a short distance.
If you had a great walk in for example the lake district, and you take the first flight out to lets say Amsterdam,
After arrival there, you get a taxi and you go and visit your frien who happens to be a farmer,
and there is one tiny bit of lake-district infected dirt still ubder your shoe,
you can infect all of his animals
It`s really dangerous and…….I have to say that I feel more sorry for the animals then for the farmers
sorry)

RE: Foot and mouth
Some of the British Airways food is down right lethal. But seriously in order to spread foot and mouth what does it take. Do you have to smuggle food through customs then feed it to the nearest sheep.

RE: Foot and mouth
firstly, foot and mouth is NOT dangerous to humans, so relax about the airline food! it is just dangerous to animals (and even then only certain kinds) but the damage it can cause to the farm and food industry is massive. here in ireland there are very strict controls in place at the airports and that includes the disposal of food that has been brought into the country. that is only done to stop the spread of the virus and not because the food is dangerous for humans to eat.

RE: Foot and mouth
It’s not Europe, but apparently, there were a couple of cases in Italy and Greece two years ago, but there was no uproar. I think it’s just cause it was in Britain, and everyone was still worried about BSE.
BAA are urging people not to take foodstuffs with them when they leave Britain, so I can’t believe that airline food is suspect.
