Whilst trying to track down a bit more data on the ‘Angels One Five’ film on the web, I stumbled on this:-
http://www.eup.ed.ac.uk/edition_details.aspx?id=12584
An eye watering £60 in hard back, but £16.99 in paperback on the web.
A short order production aimed at libraries, and only just released.
A must for several on this forum I am sure. I have placed an order.:)

Interesting to see the following chapter title,
Catalogue of Error: Piece of Cake
I recall a fair amount of fuss over this series and whilst it did not match some veterans recall it was also praised by others. Which makes me wonder how different squadrons behaved off duty. There have been accounts published in the last twenty five years which are very candid and certainly back up the idea of Fight hard, play hard.

Now we will have Professor S P MacKenzie wondering why his book has shot up the sales league all of a sudden….
😀 It could get nasty in the senior common room when the economists fall off the top sales spot. 😀

The ‘Ayes’ have it
Good spot, Mark.
As you say, at the 60 quid, the hardback’s firmly aimed at the library market, and thankfully the same pages wrapped in a paper jacked aimed at the more price sensitive of us!
While the hardback price might seem steep, it’s hardly going to be a big profit earner for Edinburgh UP, due to the small sales potential. It also gives a pause for thought as to the eye-watering problems good librarians have balancing their budgets, in a climate which is more driven to “it’s all on the Internet and why should we pay for books” even from some academics. Let’s be thankful for EUP and good libraries while we have them.
On the same topic (and interestingly from Edinburgh Uni as well) is a book I’ve not seen widely publicised – ‘The Burning Blue – A New History of the Battle of Britain’ ed Paul Addison & Jeremy A Crang, Pub Pimlico, in 2000, ISBN: 0712664750. It’s the summary from a symposium, and as well as covering the more usual fields examines areas such as the BoB in children’s literature and film – a highly recommended and original read. It’s not a ‘new’ history IMHO, so much as a good re-visiting of aspects of the history and stories.
Cheers,
