For TIGHAR, the most important thing is – the movie!

TIGHAR executive director Ric Gillespie gave a talk at the Milford, Delaware, public library on March 9 as part of its American History Series. The topic? “The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart.” What else, right?

There are about 300 people there, and TIGHAR’s Nikumaroro Hypothesis that Earhart crash landed on that Pacific island was thoroughly discussed – along with hints from and pre-selling of Gillespie’s upcoming book (of course). During the question and answer session there was more than one question about an eventual movie. Gillespie responded that he hoped the “real” story i.e, TIGHAR’s worldview, could be told by Hollywood someday soon.

He followed with: “I also hope to see a movie about me and my search for Earhart.”

I think we’re done here now …

I’m just a little surprised (I know, I shouldn’t be after all these decades) that Gillespie would publicly admit to such naked ambition.

I can see it now…

Based on a true story….

Really, A movie based on him?

Shots of a guy sitting at a horse farm in Pennsylvania, working at a computer, trying to tie anything and everything to his unproved hypothesis….and badmouthing anyone who disagrees with him.

Okay, we’ll need a couple of shots of him on a beach (shot on Long Island to save money)…

“Wide shot: Man wearing safari suit and pith helmet..”Lonely visionary searching for the TRUTH.

Suddenly, he spots a jar/piece of metal/dried feces/a shoe heel….

Close up: Eureka!!!  tears form in his eyes…

His search, his passion, is vindicated!”

Roll Credits.”

Riveting stuff.

He’ll probably hold out for Cruise to play him.

Gillespie sounds like a pompous ass.

Since most movies are fiction , even the ones based on reality, this fits perfectly!
