Did anyone see what looked like a Ford Tri-motor crash at an airshow in the USA today????? 🙁 Could have been in California…was on the news here in Oz tonight.

That’s the one. My thanks to the pilot, Cody Welch, for showing me this wonderful airplane. Also, it’s a requirement to fly with your elbow out the side window (just because you can).
There’s a nice shot of this plane on the cover of Flying magazine this month (and if you look hard enough you can just see a desert camo L-39 on the OSH ramp below :)).

PS Still looking for Andy. Last reports had him reliving the War of 1812 somewhere on the East Coast.

Oshkosh Tri-motor
Like this, Steve?

A most unfortunate accident, and my prayers for all the injured in the plane and on the ground.
I had the opportunity to fly right seat in the EAA’s Tri-Motor this weekend, as it was making it’s final stop on the summer tour before returning to Oshkosh. It is a wonderful airplane, with a rich history, and a joy to fly.
Hopefully those affected by this terrible accident will recover quickly.

terrible accident
thoughts go out to the families and the survivors for a quick recovery. It could have been alot worse as it mentioned that they just missed the tower!?

For goodness sake, I made no jokey comments about the accident. I am of course concerned for and sorry for the occupants and for the aircraft’s owner/s and engineers who will now be getting a grilling since it was just off major maintenance. I made no slur on that situation. I don’t know if you are involved with this outfit, but I think you read far too much into my comments Consul.
I merely expressed an opinion about the aircraft type based on looking at the link supplied by Stieglitz. I had never heard of this obscure type before, and I was not joking, it’s ugly.
Sorry if these simple comments offended anyone.

A gallant effort to avoid the houses – I sincerely hope that those involved make a speedy and full recovery.

Bushmaster
There is a video on this web site…

Kinda looks to me like they might have been trying to make the road to land on…

Bushmaster no joking matter
This accident was very serious and according to reports in the press two crew remain critical with burns. A prior poster making jokey remarks about the aesthetics of the machine and it’s comparable value to Spitfire hardly demonstrates awareness of and sesitivity towards the human tragedy still unfolding.

Thanks, Mike, guess I’m a bit weary, too much translating lately!

The ad only mentions one engine and propeller – are the other two dummies? Hope this is not a stupid question!
By: Dave Homewood - 26th September 2004 at 14:28
It’s an ugly thing, I would never waste a million and a half US dollars on something like that. Ooohh. You could buy a Spitfire and have change for that!

It was recently up for sale. Look here:

Sad to hear about the accident. But the most important is that everybody survived. I wish them a good recovery.

It was a Bushmaster, a replica Trimotor – no-one killed.
