Foreign language characters in posts

Is there any way of been able to write foreign language characters in posts? I have had discussions on Russian topics elsewhere and would like to be able post some of the cyrillic letters.

Just that I happen to believe that ЖЗИЙКЛМНОП means something highly uncomplimentary about EN830 and his union jack thong…;)
You say it doesn’t?

What? I was just typing a few random letters to test the characters. 😮
Check some cyrillic for yourself and you’ll see it’s not a real word.

Hmm, only got your word for that.
Looks like the kind of word that Snapper would come out with if he wished to curse in fluent Russian. Stop it or we may have to start using Babelfish again…;)

I found a freeware online unicode character map for a number of foriegn languages including cyrillic letters, but it won’t work in here, but it will work on the ezboard forums. Bummer. Oh well…..

Testing….

Have a look on your computer for a ‘Character Map’ – part of Windows. You might find some there, in which case make a note of the shortcut code for each letter. I have to write Norwegian names quite regularly and they have a few additional characters to the ones on our keyboards. For example ‘æ’ is made by holding the Alt key down and typing 0230 on the numerical keyboard. ‘Ø’ is Alt + 0216, ‘ö’ is Alt + 0246. Another slower method is to copy and paste characters from other posts that you are responding to!

If you use Internet Explorer then go to the View Menu and choose the encoding option and then choose Cyrillic. This will allow you to read Cyrillic posts… how to type in Cyrillic is another matter… 🙂
