Forgive me Forumites…..

Forgive me Forumites for I have sinned in the most terrible manner. Yesterday lunchtime I was watching a programme on daytime tv. It was something like Celebritycashinthecarbootunderthehammer (at least it contained no trace of Jermey Kyle) and something was mentioned of which I’d not previously heard…..

The programme was actually Celebrity cash in the attic featuring Neil Fox who I gather is a radio presenter? Anyway, among the various items which were found during a rummage through his house, 13 pieces of wrought iron railing were found. Although modern, the expert suggested that they were likely replacements for railings removed during the war and unused. He then went on to suggest that Bomber Command, rather than send a bomber out empty, would load it with scrap iron to drop on Germany, the inference then being that stuff like this turns up in fields across Germany.

Now, I have never heard of this before and suspect it to be wholly untrue. But in the interests of education (and being proven wrong) has anyone else come across this theory before?
