Forlorn Embraers

Today I went for a walk along a public footpath near the runway at my local airport (IOM). Highlight was having an ATP, G-MAUD, land over my head. Those buggers are loud close up!

Anyway, parked away to one side of the airport are two Embraer ERJ-145’s. They’re painted in the BA world tails scheme and have been parked up for about 9 months now, ever since their leases expired. The registrations have been painted out, but they are from memory G-EMBA and G-EMBB. The engines have now been removed and replaced with blue plastic bags over the mountings.

So, question – does anyone know what happened?

According to the specs the 170 is more STOL than the 145 family (But thats not hard!)

Hmm, is the -170 capable of operating into regional airports like the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey?

C, D, and E are ending their lease this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were parked up with you as well Mongu.
However this will surely prompt a takeup of the remaning options they have left with Embraer, either as more 145’s, or as I believe they will probably do, use the options to purchase some 170’s.
With the turboprops going and ERJ’s being retired and new long range routes being added constantly they are going to have to buy some new aircraft, and the 170 is a good replacement for their 146 fleet too.

Embraer is selling them. I saw it on their website. Go to the pre-owned aircraft area, search up ERJ145, there you go.
