Fort Paull closed-last Beverley at risk?

Not good news, of course if it was a Spitfire..https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/fort-paull-closed-reopen-plans-3759700

I bring you my support from France, wishing that you could save this unique survivor, I would have liked to visit the Fort Paull to discover the beverly and the hunter who are exposed to it. I’d be sad to know they were destroyed.[/quote]

Not yet, Maxime, but you may be prescient. However I hope not.

It would be a great shame to lose this airframe but I suspect the cost of dismantling transport and re assembly if a new home could be found will be a big problem

I last visited Fort Paul last September. Ha sanyone got any ideas to save this aircraft.

There was lots of talk when it was last moved that the airframe was not in great condition and may not take another move? The RAFM should be stepping in here IMHO. Oh for the days when the RAF used to dismantle aircraft like this as an exercise before the bean counters stepped in. Personally gutted is it does turn into tin cans as I have not seen it yet and it was part of this summers coming tour of ‘up north’!

When the Museum of Army Transport closed, one of the options was reputed to be Elvington but how much of that was hot air from enthusiasts and how much was genuine I’ve no idea.

It seemed like a better plan to me, being much further away from salt water.

Where could you keep such a beast? Bruntingthorpe? I know it’s piston powered but it’s definitely Cold War. Duxford? Cosford?

Would Crowdfunding it’s move somewhere be an option? I’ve seen people give lots to some very strange causes.

How difficult is transporting it? It’s been done before to get it where it is so must be possible.

I fear that the successful bidder for the Beverley may prove to be Mr S.C.Rapman.

Beverley and Hunter going to auction.  I don’t think this will end well, but hope I am very wrong.

The reason is

A spokesperson for Fort Paull said: “The reason for the decision to close the fort is a recent bereavement of a main member of our small team, and a retirement of our director who will be 80 next month, and does not feel able to continue with the arduous task of running this very complex institution.”

When I saw it at Beverly it had a exhibition on air transport and air dropping, that fitted nicely inside.

AA: So just as well you don’t have a mischievous side …

Some might even say put it outside with Hendon’s collection IN it. Sorry I said that. I didn’t mean it.
