Forth Bridge FW190

Brilliant coloured photgraph of reproduction FW190 ‘Butcher Bird’ fighter flying over the Forth Railway bridge in the ‘Scotsman’newspaper .
This can be accessed on http/ http://www.scotsman.com
The Glasgow based’ Herald has photograph of the same plane but from a different angle.
Ironically, the FW190 photograph also shows the Forth Rail bridge in the wraps that mark the fact that rust has done what the Luftwaffe couldn’t do when they flew over the Forth rail bridge in October 1939-closed the bridge for a month to all rail traffic.
Incidentally, an American guy in another website that I visit is claiming that a Heinkel 111 that crashed recently at Cheyenne, Wyoming, was the last flying example of the type worldwide.
Surely not?
What about the Spanish HE111’s that ‘starred in the 1969 movie-‘The Battle of Britain’?

Hi guys.

I am sure it was mentioned at the airshow that it is kept at Archerfield airfield. Part of the Archerfield estate of The Duke of Hamilton, who was flying his Scottish Aviation Bulldog and gave a fine display of the aircraft at East Fortune as did Gavin in the FW190 but I have to admit our model club had a better display the Sunday before as some of you will have seen from my digi pics posted earlier.

It is a WAR 190 replica , owned by a chap called Gavin Hunter , it did a pretty good display at East Fortune on Saturday , it is based locally ( maybe Merlin can tell us , as it’s near his location somewhere ) . It is a good looking thing and has a really nice paint scheme.

It may well have been, they were very active at the time, but I just got the feeling it was Visionair.

But hey, I’ve been wrong before

Was it not Warbirds of Great Britain (Doug Arnold) that imported it to the UK?

The Casa2111 at Duxford came directly from Spain in a deal set up by OFMC. It may well have been in the BofB film, but was not one of the 2 that were based at Duxford during the filming. One of these passed to the Southend Air Museum and was, until recently, under restoration at North Weald. It has now moved to ‘Norfolk’ for restoration to fly by an American owner. The other Duxford based C2111 moved to the US directly after filming and is now on static display. The aircraft lost last week was imported to the UK by Visionair (Jeff Hawks outift?) as one of a pair. The other was lost on the delivery flight, sadly killing the well known display pilot Neil Williams.
The remaining aircraft passed to the CAF and has been operated by their Arizona wing at Mesa near Pheonix Arizona.

I visited there in February, and was lucky enough to have a tour of the Casa as it was parked out on the ramp. A fascinating aeroplane and another sad loss.
If I find some way of posting the slides of it on the ramp, then I will.

Couldn’t find the link either.

This would almost certainly be the WAR replica FW190, a reduced scale pfa single seater.

There is one hanging around East Anglia, I last saw it at Norwich airport (Horsham ST Faith) about 18 months back.

There is a WAR P47 in existence too.

“I could not find the link either”.

The last time I saw a piloted-scaled model of a FW 190 was at Stapleford Abbott’s airfield, Essex. This was before the M25 was built, early 80’s. The plane was based at Elstree Airfield, Herts.
Not heard of any flying over here since.

HE111, sadly & regretable loss of life (my thoughts to those close to the perished crew).
The plane which crashed in Cheyenne, was indeed the last fly-able example of this bomber.
Very few survived after the making of the BOB film. Two that I knew of in the UK, but might have moved now, Duxford (recently)& North Weald (long ago).
