Chaps, chappesses etc….the “You could teach monkeys to fly better than that…” thread got me thinking……dangerous that! Anyone fancy a Forum getogether at Duxford? We could meet up in say January when everyone is looking forward to the return of airshows and the warm days/long evenings.
The mad BoB film enthusiasts could amuse each other with quotations whilst looking at the locations the film was shot on, whilst a dose of Life of Brian could ensue. Chats about aviation etc could occur. Philo could demonstrate his photographic skills….we could have a curry a drink…… Just a thought.

RE: Forum Getogether?
Just to let you all know, this forum getogether is still on. It will hopefully be on the 4th/5th January 2003.
Ashley is just getting some figures together and we should have costs. It will then be up to you all to decide if it is a goer!!!
The aim will be to keep costs down.

Garry
Thanks for the thought – yeah, I would get to watch the latest videos, but the last time I flew to the UK, (in fact, the only time) I got to watch Stuart Bloody Little – an animated rat or some such, and Jim Carey, who makes me puke. I preferred to watch the flight recorder.
Good luck to the lot of yez – it sounds like a great idea and I hope it works out ok.
I’ll still be sulking though!

RE: Forum Getogether?
Thanx Becka/Ashley (I is so confused!)
I shall send another email to you and see if we can firm up a suitable itinery and possible costs. It will then be down to the forum to decide what they wish to include and what they wish to forget!!
regards

RE: Forum Getogether?
Hey Wombat
Yup you are at a slight disadvantage in your location…its bad enough I’ve gotta 4.5 hour flight back to RAF Brize Norton (at least you get to watch video’s on your flight’s !!!)… let alone umpteen hours sat curtesy of Boeing’s finest. Bet you’d win the ‘Farthest attendee’ award !
What we need to do is set up a meeting on this ‘ere wonderful World Wide Wait using webcams ? or is this a silly idea ?…and no, I am not proposing we watch B of B on the web either. Don’t know how many we could get logged on at the same time but could be worth looking into.
Failing that, we’ll all have to promise to take shed loads of piccies and send out to you (NOTE: not down to you !) in a bladdy big parcel.
Hey, how’s about a Tshirt commemorating the visit for those that manage to get there, with a suitable slogan….be one for the books for that wouldn’t it.
Cheers
Gary

All I can say is your’e a bunch of s…s for organising this 20,000 km away. And no, I don’t have the $2,000 to fly over and back, so I’m gonna sulk!

RE: Forum Getogether?
Hi All,
Perhaps one of you clever lot out there ought to put together some sort of poll so we can see:
A. When would be the most popular time for the get together.
B. What films, talk etc the majority would like to see happen, at the get together.
Start off with the biggest possible dates, films etc & whittle them down in a poll.
Cheers,
Neilly

RE: Forum Getogether?
Fantastic.
For us lot who have to fly to the UK / mainland, as much notice as possible (3 months?) would be appreciated so we can get the cheapest ‘plane tickets.
I’ll be flying into Stansted or Luton. would be very grateful for any lift as well as steers for overnight accommodation. Really looking forward to it.
Idea: how’s about we all wear stickers with our callsign when we meet? (Dezz – I will walk up to you and offer the most obscure quote possible from B of B to test your mettle!)
“Anyone seen my goldfish?”

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-10-02 AT 05:34Â PM (GMT)]Hey guys an’ gals
If I can get enough advance warning on a date, I’m in with a better chance of getting a flight arranged back to the UK…sides which, I’ve never yet been to the museum.
Be great to meet up with fellow posters (and see some green fields (unless they’re under snow ?)).
cheers

RE: Forum Getogether?
I too would be happy to contribute to Mr Rudhall’s running costs, and if the video is the documentary about the making of the movie a few pint’s of beer as well!!….what the hell I’ll stand him a few pint’s anyway for writing a book that has given me so much enjoyment to read.
Keep us informed.
Philo: I for one wouldn’t mind seeing one of your slideshow’s m8

RE: Forum Getogether?
Sounds like a good idea!
Let’s get the date & the programme agreed.
Anyone need a lift from the East Hert’s area?
…..therefore if it takes one Ashley 14 hours to polish a Spitfire with her feather boa, how many hours will it take us lot with one duster in each hand?
(answers on a postcard to ……..)

I’m up for it, just set the date, if it’s Sunday I will probably be there anyway:-)

RE: Forum Getogether?
Ah well, I was going to offer to bring one of my slide shows along but if we can secure an expert in RR all the better. But if Robert can’t do it then i’m happy to show one of my set shows(without the narration as you all know more than me)
Dates ? Fridays are better for me although I could do alternate Saturdays starting 11th Jan.

RE: Forum Getogether?
I’ll happily contribute. It would be great to see the slide show and then the film if that is possible, I intend to visit Duxford again soon anyway so I shall put off my visit until we can sort things out. Is the plan still to have a wander around the museum as well?

RE: Forum Getogether?
Well, I have had some emails from Becka….is this Ashley I ask?
Anywhichway, Ashley & Becka seem to be able to get the crucial things we need for a get together. Robert Rudhall would be happy to give his famed BoBF slide show and rare video for petrol costs…..so howse about it?!

RE: Forum Getogether?
How’s about ‘Between Friends’ by the Boulting Brothers – 609 Squadron at Biggin Hill. Its amazingly good, just like a Harry Enfield sketch. Of course, its not so funny when you realise where all the ‘actors’ went. Anything like that would be great. DBW gets my vote too.

RE: Forum Getogether?
I agree ‘Piece of Cake would be a tad long,so I go for BofB or DBW as I blinked and misses its showing at our local cinema. And I don’t mind bringing some polishing clothes and cockpit cleaner to give Ashley a hand.

RE: Forum Getogether?
Just thought I’d point out that Piece of Cake was a six part series, each part lasting about an hour,so I’m thinking it might be a tad on the long side.
I’d be happy to go and see BofB or DBW,and watching some stuff from the IWM archive sounds pretty tasty n’all. What sort of things does the IWM have in it’s film archives??
