Forum Meets

Excuse the ignorance on this, but are there generally meetings of like minded contributors to this and the other fora at such events as Flying Legends and are all welcome? Not trying to barge in at all, but being a new-ish member, I don’t know what has gone before!:)

I flew into Lt Staughton a couple of years back.

Rang for a brief, it was a bit sketchy. Met up with a Cherrytree in the circuit but we sorted it without major excitement. When we met up after landing he did whine a bit about my being non-radio.

Well the brief never mentioned anything about a frequency….

I still imagined Dad, long since passed on, standing by the MT section with some of his spectral comrades looking at the little Piper on finals and saying proudly “That’s my boy”

Can’t see a reason to turn that date down. Saturday 13th March is fine by me.

When Kev originally volunteered, he asked for suggested dates. We all seem to have missed that. As nobody else has said anything, I’ll throw one in to start with.
Saturday March 13th.

Sorry, things seem to have gotten a bit disjointed. Cosford where & when?

Is the Coventry Air Atlantique visit on day 2 still on?

Have I missed the boat?

Can we have a recap now?

I want to go to Cosford. Is that still on? Can I fly in?

I want a walk around a deserted pathfinder base (Mr Moggy Snr. was at Little Staughton). Is that still on. Lofty will be up for that too. He and I are great derelict field hunters.

But it works quite well because Mrs Moggy was born in Wales but transported at an impressionable age to Australia.

… or Watney’s Red Barrel and Worthington E in the “Family Seven” packs (if that’s the right name for them!).

Have to say though that Shepherd Neame Spitfire is a fine drop of ale, viz the bottles in my garage!

As my Father use to say –

“There are no bad beers, it’s just some are better than others”

He used to say some strange things when he was P!ssed.

I am always thirsty.
If I was in Belgium it would be another matter. I gather there are loads of different types and styles. Sounds like a challenge.

I’m arriving in Belgian beers local next weekend. I shall consume yours as you’re not thirsty!

A thread on the Historic Aviation forum, about a Forum Meet, seems to have been hijacked into a discussion about beer.
Looking back, it appears to be me that started it… Sorry!

However, you can stick your Belgian beers, the Abbot has arrived in my local. I’m endeavouring to ensure they sell as little as possible to anybody else.

Tesco’s are now stocking ‘Leffe Brune’. You can stick your lagers and bitters in the wheelie bin – i’m having a decent beer.

Well, I’ll won’t get drawn into the Ock Street v BS Edmunds battle……… Oh yes I will !!.
Morlands bitter in its prime was the best bitter in the south of England, in its latter days it was……well ………..variable lets say, today the stuff masquerading as ‘Original’ is sweet weak piddle.
OSH is one of the finest strong ales (lets not forget its an IPA) brewed in this country (lets not also forget that it has been around since 1977 when first brewed as a bottled jubilee ale), I had 7 bottles Saturday night and it was bloody marvelous, whether the bottled version is better now is debatable, the draught is not in my book.

Makes it cheaper when you only need a few

I feel the need to pop over the road to my Local tonight and define what “a few” is 😀

Wasn’t that the general idea? Makes it cheaper when you only need a few.
I’ve been drinking Abbot for more years than I’m prepared to admit to, but I think the revised OSH is the Pooches Parts, to paraphrase slightly.

As a denizen of Oxfordshire you’ll obviously disagree, but in my opinion Old Speckled Hen has vastly improved since being transplanted to Suffolk.

As a long time Abingdon resident and taste tester (unpaid) for Morlands I have to agree.

The takeover of Morlands by Green King and move of the brewing to B St E has resulted ina vastly improved beer when compared to the crap produced by Ock Street in its final years. It all went down hill when the long standing Head Brewer retired.

Abbott does have an unfortunate effect on me though, it makes me talk gibberish and fall over after only a few pints 😀

To be fair, I think it’s the only time that’s happened. For example, Courage Directors, a long-time favourite, is now undrinkable.
