Okay….
Before this one gets zapped and clears off into the big wide unknown (good start that sure to get wiped!),
Should we approach the webmaster…if he will answer….to suggest that we …the forum users…be allowed to moderate our particular forums.
Most of us look at all the forums available on this particular website, but we still tend to haunt one in particular out of choice. why therefore can we not be allowed to ‘propose’ our own moderators to police and keep under control each specialised forum, as do other forums that I wont mention here!.
We have enough, high calibre, longtime members who have the common sense, wordly outlook, interests of fellow forum members at heart to do the job and do the job damn well !!!!. Hey, we all clock on at least once a day to check out whats happening so there would be no delay in assessing a rogue thread.
Personally I dont see why not and I reckon a lot, if not the majority of of members would agree that this would be acceptable.
Obviously the webmaster and forum moderators would have a communal chinwag concerning potentially harmfull threads…cos so far its only the webmaster that can delete, which is fair enough.
What do you reckon…and more importantly what thoughts does the webmaster have on this topic ?

I don’t think it is possible either.
1) because it is a commercial company. And, we should thank them to offer the forum
2) because of great antagonisms between some people.
But, yes, there are some people who could do the job, and would be perfectly objective. And let their personal feelings out.

Even though it feels about as disgusting as having just been raped by a yak-with-leprocy, i agree with US Agent (all i can hope is that the feeling is mutual 😀 ).
Most, if not all of the posters here have at some point stated their political opinions on quite a few of the tense topics popping up every now and then. This will make their integrity doubtfull, at least in the eyes of (some of) their ‘political opponents’ in this forum. Just think of the venom about to be released if a Pakistani post is being deleted when there is an avid Indian as a moderator…
Resident posters for whom i have great respect and an almost absolute faith in their abilities as moderators (Kev, Hand, Ink, Frank, SOC back in the old days Biff… yes Geedee, you as well), as far as i can remember have all partaken in some rather fierce debates. Anyone disagreeing with them being moderator can start digging into the archives to discredit them without any problem.
It will be a great idea to stir up some more dung though.

Even in the most extreme situation such as on sci.military
.naval where that newsgroup is inundated with blantent racial hatred posts, there is a danger to have members censure posts. To be honest Ive never found anything really bad or offencive to where I coulnt stand to view it (unlike sci.militarty naval). The best I think is to allow the original poster of the thread to delete posts or at least put warning messages of posts that are a waste of time.

It will not work. AFM is not a non profit organisation. You can’t just ask people to moderate the forum.

It is very annoying having the threads disappear without trace… It would be nice for an explanation as to why they were deleted.
