Did I miss something?
In the latest flypast John Romain stated that they are working on four Mk I Spitfires built to the Mk I standard exactly using Merlin III’s and reconstructed propellers.
And this was not discussed recently? Which one is the fuselage with KL codes?
Exciting times we live in (in all respects unfortunately)
Cheers

Righto, I’ll be the mug. What book? Has it got naked ladies in it?
“Spitfire Survivors – 3rd Edition” 🙂
I’ve set up a Facebook page where I can keep people appraised of progress as we head towards publication http://www.facebook.com/pages/Spitfire-Survivors/125282320832417

I was aware of these four Spitfires, but there is nothing in my site relating to them. There will be some interesting work going into them !

275?
The number must have almost doubled compared to the previous Spitfire survivors around the world edition, not that I mind though.
Also the fact that some early Seafires will emerge in a few years time is good news. Strange that three airframes with consecutive serialnumbers are coming back to life again.
Did I miss XIV RN203 somewhere, dug up from Germany (serial from memory)

Sorry about my kneejerk (or maybe just ‘jerk’) reaction earlier – yes, I suppose client confidentiality is a good reason to keep things under wraps 😮
By: Oxcart - 20th May 2010 at 13:35
Legends this year?- John Romain has already answered that one in FP!

🙂 It does sometimes seems to be a ” i know something you don’t and i am going to let you know i know something” even if i am not going to say what it is i know.:)
Whatever ,i hope we will see all these lovely airframes in the air before the world ends in 2012 🙂
By: Firebird - 20th May 2010 at 11:20
and where did these aeroplanes come from?
From a various selection of holes in the ground I would assume……
As an aside, I would have thought suitable core Merlin III’s can’t be easy things to find or……… perhaps not 😀

I trust you will remember the several posts from myself and Howard Cook advising that for the princely sum of £1 it would be possible to have the full ARCO/HFL tour, where this ‘secret’ project was on full view… but it is a delicate area and customer confidentiality is an issue.
All 275 Spitfires/Seafires/Projects/Memorials will be listed in the two volumes of the book.
Mark
Indeed I do old chap…..unfortunately I was too busy on my projects to attend. My cheeky response was aimed at other threads too!
I fully appreciate that some owners wish to be secretive, it is their right….These are all icons and, from my personal view, I wish to share my projects with others (that are interested!) by showing them (warts and all).
Regarding the Spit vols, is there a tentative date yet? Will it include statics, composites, replicas etc or adopt FP’s selective listing? looking forward to it
By: paulmcmillan - 20th May 2010 at 10:42
…and you would be incorrect.
As Spitfire Society members will have seen at their AGM, you have missed one, perhaps the most advanced, perhaps the first one to fly…but “It’ll all be in the book”. 🙂
Mark
Ahh but am I 75%, 50%, 25 or 0% correct?
By: paulmcmillan - 20th May 2010 at 10:38

And if, like me, serials and provenance are not the prime concern, but just the chance to see and hear these wonderful machines in the 21st century, then none of the above matters much.;):D
