I’ve been doing a study of the available Fox Moth model drawings and noting that the Tiger Moth has sweep back(s) of 6.5 deg and 5.75 deg and the equal sweep back quoted for the Fox Moth is 3.0 deg. Now the usual quote is that the Fox Moth used Tiger Moth wings and tail unit. However all model drawings show a parallel centre section which indicates that the wing spars have been modified. Also the cabane struts are drawn as parallel to each other even those staggered in side profile. In front views these struts are all shown to be parallel and vertical. This would be correct if the wings had been modified. Another quote from the Magnificent Enterprise book says that Tiger and Fox wings “can be interchanged if the metal root fittings are replaced”. Photos I have taken suggest to me that the lower Tiger wing has the lower rear spar fixings lengthened and a tapered fillet fairing fitted to close the gap. The cabane struts clearly have different angles in my photo which seems to suggest that the centre section (tank frame) is a trapeziod shape rather than parallel, being narrower at the front. This would allow the standard Tiger Moth top wing to be used virtually unmodified
Does any forum member have the correct information or access to rigging or centre section drawings for the Fox Moth? Please.
