Q. I live in Germany but maintain a credit card in the United States. When I booked a flight with Ryanair using my U.S. MasterCard, the price was quoted and confirmed in euros. When I reviewed my credit-card statement in dollars, I found that Ryanair had charged me an exorbitant exchange rate and had added a “user” fee because I had charged the fare to a dollar-denominated card. I shop across Europe with this card and I always get a good exchange rate.

A. Buying anything with a foreign card always exposes one to currency shifts, especially with a weakening dollar. Ryanair is not alone in setting arbitrary exchange rates for local currency transactions (although to be fair, it does state this on the site). Card companies or issuing banks charge foreign transactions at a more or less favorable rate. Get a euro card for Europe.

I don’t know how long FR will keep screwing his customers.
It seems to me the “profit” at any cost may be dangereous for the long terM;
I have already noticed that when I travelled on FR. I hate such practices …

I expect FR will keep this attitude for a while yet. Its what they are famous for. Their fares are incredible. Saying that, soon as I stop being a poor student and start having some money I will stop flying FR!!!
