Terrible news from East Kirkby today…
Fred Panton 6/3/1931-9/6/2013
It is with extremely deep sadness that we announce the loss of Fred Panton. Fred passed away suddenly on Sunday evening surrounded by his family. He worked until the very end, exactly as he wanted it to be.
Very few people have shown the drive and determination in life that Fred has to achieve his aims in creating a memorial to his brother, Chris, and remembering Bomber Command. As a family we are incredibly proud of what he has done and we will make it our lives work to continue his. He was a gentleman, a loving and caring family man and an inspiration to us all. He will remain in the thoughts and spirit of the Centre forevermore. The world is a poorer place without him.
////
What a great guy he was…

Fred Panton’s thanksgiving and celebration of his life is on Saturday 13th July at the Centre at 2.30pm.
It should be a celebration and a thanks giving to for the work Fred did. Fingers crossed it’s not a glum do.
Rest in peace Fred.
I do hope Harold gets to see Just Jane fly.

God bless the Panton family. Fred can revisit his brother Chris now. And I hope all the surviving members of the family get a little closer to them both in NX611 when the time is right.

A very sad loss indeed my thoughts are with his family and friends. If there is an afterlife I hope the heavenly choir is composed of the sound of Merlins!

He and his families work is far more deserving of knighthoods than any sportstar IMHO. Thoughts and prayers with family and friends.
Couldn’t have put it better.
God bless you Fred Panton.

I’m sure his brother, Chris, will be waiting for him and be very proud of all he has done.

A truly inspirational Gentleman without whom the world is a sadder place. Respect to all his family and long live East Kirby aviation museum and above all Just Jane in to the wild blue yonder to
fulfil Freds dream

Oh no 🙁
I’ve never had the chance to visit EK, but I’ve obviously followed the “Just Jane” news with some interest.
I really hope the family will carry on with putting the Lanc back in the sky – I’m sure Fred would have wanted them to.
Blue skies, Fred.

My sincere condolences to the Panton family.
I meet Fred briefly when I took my late father on a Taxy ride on ‘Just Jane’ a few years ago, and I thought he was a delightful man. He certainly has a legacy that will live on.

Sad to hear the news of Fred’s passing.
On my twice yearly visits to EK,he was always a nice bloke who would take the time to tell you about what was going on.
Condolences to the Panton Family for whom we owe a great deal.

When I visited East Kirby to see ‘Just Jane’ taxi he was always there proudly watching her.
He will always be there in spirit.
Thank you Fred Panton.

Sad news indeed. My wife and I saw Fred and Harold when we enjoyed a personal tour around Just Jane last year. May all that has been achieved at East Kirkby, and that which has yet to be achieved, live on in Fred’s memory as well as that of his brother, Chris.

How sad, and what a shame he couldn’t have lived to see “Just Jane” take to the air again.
I never spoke to him, but did see Fred and his brother when we visited East Kirkby some years ago.

As a family we are incredibly proud of what he has done
Rightly so.
I met him a couple of times and have ridden his aircraft.
The world was a better place for his presence and is a little gloomier now.
I have no faith, but if he and Chris are reunited then that is a real result.
My condolences to the family
RIP Mr Panton.
