FREE LANDING FEE'S Sywell May 6th & 7th

Come and see that Sywell is a loverly grass Airfield with warm welcome waiting, not the c**P that was going around last year  🙂
Also the new Extra Formation Team 2 Exel may be around struting their stuff?

Sampled both the beefburgers at the Pilots Mess and the AT-3 at Brooklands School of Flying (thanks Gareth) yesterday.

Both were 100-percent excellent!

Just to get back to an earlier poster’s question, yes I made it on the Saturday morning in the faithful Airtourer. It was a fairly brief visit due to incoming rain but it was very pleasant. The Tower were on the ball as usual, the grass was green and well trimmed, the AT-3s were buzzing about, Delta were Tigering, a CAP10 was turning everybody green and there were microlights lying about on aforesaid grass. A very pleasant scene and well done to whoever decided it was FREE landing fees. The new Pilots Mess is very Art-Deco, which is in keeping with the whole feel of the place, but they didn’t have any change for my coffee but I’m sure that was an opening day glitch. So Sywell, despite the sniping and what’s gone before, remains one of my personal favourite land-aways along with Old Buckenham and how long is that going to last. Word on the street has it sold for light industrial development. Where have we heard that before?

In that case, it could have been me or it might have been someone doing an impression of me :diablo:

so the impressionists were a bunch of slightly insane men who hung around late at night working on ‘projects’ and drinking to excess…it all makes sense!

Hmmm. Might explain an impressionist paint finish on the BE-2? :diablo:

Thats good. Last time I ordered food in The Aviator had to wait ages and then I didn’t get what I ordered. When I took it back the lad said something along the lines of ‘don’t worry nobody will notice’. Which, I found a little baffling

BTW Blue Max are you the person I spoke to when I was at Sywell having the cover made for the Auster?

That depends on whether i owe you monet or not 😉 Yes things were always a bit hit and miss at the Aviator  The Pilots mes is intened to make things alot better and catter for the visiting pilot, only one way to find out 🙂

Shifty looking character…probably….. :p

Cant have been the Minor Steve, by the look of the location, the rubber band would have unwound LONG before you reached it….

Joe- got to be worth a schlepp over to check it out… 🙂

Yep food will be available, all the stuff pilots like, breakfasts, burgers etc. Was a bit caotic at the weekend but should be just the ticket for the weary Aviator 🙂

What’s the Pilots Mess like?
The Aviator Hotel always seems a bit of a hit or miss affair for food, will you be able to get food in the new facilities?

From what I’ve heard, that’s the reason why the Pilot’s Mess has been created, to offer decent grub for visiting crews more quickly and conveniently. I’m looking forward to sampling it.

Nice pics all. After reading through all the rows of BS I was wondering whether I’d ever get to find out who had turned up. Looks like plenty did.

Must get over there and sample a Sywell Burger at the Mess!

Couldn’t make it myself. Was at a club fly-out a little further away. First person to identify the airfield gets a free beer in The Aviator bar!! 🙂
