French building flying Mosquito replica?

This post and link has appeared on WIX

Hi!

A Mossie is under construction in France to fly, this project is under construction from 15 years by some French Fans, this Mossie will be the only one who fly in the World!

The airframe appears well advanced with fuselage mounted to wing and sitting on it undercarriage.

There is debate on WIX as to if it is full scale or fractional (3/4, 80% etc) scale, and my interpretation of the photo is that it is not full scale given the apparant fuselage diameter, wing cord and fuselage to narcelle distance.

However it does seem an advanced and serious project?

If it is of fractional scale – will it be dual seat or single seat.

(If it is of fractional scale – how close would it be to a Hornet?)

Anyone know anything about it?

UK airspace..?

Would this aircraft be allowed into UK airspace or would it have the same problems that the reproduction FW190 had?

If not, our French friends would be more than welcome to bring her to the Great North Fly In at Eshott, Northumberland this year!

Creaking Door, nice recovery too. Takes balls to admit you made a mistake. ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ™‚ I agree ,well done ๐Ÿ™‚
Back to the subject, would this aircraft be fully aerobatic?
How powerful is the aircraft ?
Good luck to them.

Well put. Its not my bag, but I take my hat off to those that have spent time designing and building the aircraft.

I concur, well put both of you.

The last bit of that film shows just how triky this beast is, full size or not with power applied he nearly lost it off the side of the runway:eek:
I wish them well with first flights.

I think that’s a bit of a cheap retort, Creaking Door…

Yes, it was; I am guilty as charged.

I appreciate that Yankeepapa was only responding to some of the unkind comments made about this project on the forum. Yankeepapa is rightly proud of this French achievement and perhaps is unaware of the tragedy that overtook Mosquito RR299; perhaps also โ€˜gloatingโ€™ was too strong a word but then Yankeepapa did choose to respond to the criticism by pointing out that there were no flying Mosquitos (replica or otherwise) in the United Kingdom when in my view there was absolutely no need to, particularly given the circumstances of that fact.

I do not think for a second that Yankeepapa was gloating about the loss of RR299 or it crew nor, I hasten to add, did I make any suggestion that Yankeepapa was doing so although I can see how my comment could have been misinterpreted.

However, having said all that, my comment was out of order, and for that Yankeepapa, I apologise.

Portrait of the forum at its squabbling worst ๐Ÿ™

How can such a worthy and admirable project be the cause of rancour and mud-slinging ?

It is not a Mosquito, not pretending to be a Mosquito, but rather is a tribute, a homage to that much-missed aeroplane, and at the moment, in the flying stakes, is the best we have got.

The building of replicas and reproductions is a respected and respectable endeavour, and though they may not be to the taste of every enthusiast, they are widely admired by many others.

This is an amazing piece of design and manufacture, and the fact that a French team choose to spend 15 years working on a British design is all the more gratifying.

“we will have one flying in FRANCE. what about you in UK??” Firstly there is not a full scale Mossie flying in France – it is a modern three quarter scale replica and secondly why ask the question, other than to make a jibe? Perhaps CD went a little far in making a connection which was not made originally but the exchanges at that level are becoming rather silly.

We hope we might see the real thing here at Legends this from New Zealand, or maybe next year. And perhaps it will cross the Channel as well, to be enjoyed by all of us.

I think that’s a bit of a cheap retort, Creaking Door, to link yankeepapa’s “gloat” (if that is what it was – which I’m inclined to doubt) to the crash of RR299 and the death of its crew. You have made a connection. Yankeepapa did not.

…even if it is a scale ugly mosqui, we will have one flying in FRANCE. what about you in UK??

We in the UK had Mosquito RR299 flying for over thirty years until it tragically crashed killing the crew…

…are you still gloating?

Sorry if my reply clearly raised some hackles – it was not meant to.:) I am sure it is a worthy project – I merely expressed my opinion of it and the French will choose whether or not to fly it across the Channel. As for the comment about the ยฃ20 million alluding to another entirely different project, there really is no connection, although members seem to persist in wanting to make one.

Better 3/4 scale than nothing at all. And the gentlemen who built it haven’t had to go to the City to raise ยฃ20 million to fund the project! I, for one, shall hope to see it at one or more of the air shows in western France this year. And if certain of you in the UK don’t like it and don’t want to see, I’m sure that the French won’t require too much persuasion not to fly it across la manche!

Not Continental engines, but Potez engines.

I have been thinking about this, not having seen the original thread. It has been an interesting project, no doubt, but I cannot see the merit of it. The Mossie was/is the Mossie and building a replica three quarter size doen’t really interest me. And I suppose in answer to yankeepapa – so what?;):)
