French Invasion

Every two years Edinburgh plays host to legions of Gaulic invaders, all in the name of a sport played with a funny shaped ball. Here are some of their transports. Apologies for the weather though – it was the usual mix of torrential downpours, sunshine and 40 knot winds. 🙄

Biggest aircraft to visit was this Air France B.747-200. A very unusual sight at EDI (sorry – took quite a few of it!) :

Note the hard left turn just inside the taxiway :

It departed in slightly better weather :

Globespan, operated by Channel Express :

Not a French charter, but very nice all the same, the Ryanair Kilkenny scheme :

Usually the customer doesn’t have any say in the matter anyway as it is down to the travel agent / broker who is organising the trip just to get the best deal suited to the customers scheduling.

I have some GLA times but don’t know the BCN times, shouldn’t be hard to find out though.

I see on the departures list a Monarch A330 and two Atlanta 747’s amongst others.

I was just looking out the window at work here and saw the Air france 747 return to edinburgh to pick up the fans. I’m about 5 miles away from the airport and it still looked huge as it approached. Nice n slow!

Oh man, I wish I was beside the runway!

It is parked at the end of the x wind runway with F-GOMA the Axis Airways Bae146. It is really remote, as far away from the terminal as you can get I’d say.

If you can’t get on Scotavnet, here’s a link to another very good EDI website which at the moment has a list of the rugby charters on a pdf file :

Hey Bod, I was there at the same time as you. I saw the Globespan and kilkenny. You might have noticed a silver VW PAssat going backwards and forwards across the car park? Well that was me attempting to drive as I am only 16. Anyway……
We found a great lane later, just off Turnhouse Road that was within photo taking distance of the Air Atlanta 742. Missed the AF as I didn’t know it was coming 😡 There were some interesting landings today with the CRAZY WIND! 😀

Hi Stuart. Can’t remember seeing a silver Passat driving erratically across the car park! :p

Didn’t bother going to see the Atlanta – looked a bit boring in all over white. It arrived Friday btw.

Air Atlanta is due to depart at 2100 Sun. It has been here since Sat from somewhere in France, not MAN. Just noticed the AF 747 has a landing light not working.

Try signing up with Scotavnet again.

Tried already, tells me I’ve been rejected and cannot re-apply.

I don;t think I want to join now, if they’re to f**king stuck up to reject me with no reason
