French Mitchell on the move

The Paris based B-25 F-AZID will move to Switzerland. A ferry today to her new homebase Sion was postponed because of the weather. The new registration is HB-RDE… The owners asked for HB-RED but apparently at the offices of the Swiss authorities a typo-error has been made.

Looking at the haze, the B25 kicks out a fair bit of heat during take-off.

Especially when an explosion in the intake manifold has just blown away part of the ignition harness.

But no doubt about it, A B-25 sounds and looks great!

Sounds like a Motorhead concert up close actually. :diablo: πŸ˜‰ The first 25 I saw (and heard) was TFC’s “Grumpy” in Stockholm in 1988. Awesome is the word I’m looking for!

I’ve still got a soft spot for this particular Mitchell

If anyone would like to watch “Mitchells do fly in IMC” drop me a PM.

Rob

I also love that rare plane in the background of your pic. But no doubt about it, A B-25 sounds and looks great!

B-25 COLORS

Yes, all suggestions for the colours scheme are welcome. πŸ™‚

But you will understand that initially there are more important tasks than the new colours and that the decision for the final scheme will be kept top-secret till the very last moment. :diablo:

We promise: this plane needs to be seen. So she will not be kept secretly in a dark hangar. She will be displayed.

Correct, and apologies for the misquote of your familyname Yves! I even made a mistake in the place of departure – Xavier corrected me. Dyon [F] is written as Dijon [F]. Keep smiling!
The new colours…. I have some nice suggestions!

Hi all

The former French Mitchell F-AZID was ferried today 26 January 2005 with her new registration HB-RDE from Dyon [F] to Sion [CH]. After a thorough de-icing at Dyon – the plane was ice-covered – the crew flew the 1945 built veteran bomber to Sion. Pilots were Peter Kuypers from the Netherlands [one of the Mitchell pilots in the Duke of Brabant Air Force] an Yves Castelier from Belgium [known for flying the Lysander]. “En route” the Mont Blanc was passed at some 12,000ft / FL120. Yes, rather cold. After an interesting fly by the plane landed around 16.00LT at her new homebase Sion. More details to follow
Kind regards

Coert

The Cat is still at Beauvais, has damage due to heavy wind. A spare engine is ready in Israel, but this has nothing to do with F-AZID [as far as I know, but I’m never too old to learn…]
Don’t know yet on new colours for the Mitchell, stay tuned.
I must have some pictures of the rare occasions several years ago when we had three Mitchells at Flying Legends, will have a look.

No, one’s big and orange, the other’s not quite as big and camouflaged.

Silly suggestion by me, I know. I had just never heard of that rumour. Awaiting Coert’s update now.

Wasn’t this one supposed to be going to Israel at one point?

Never heard that one. You’re not mistaking it for the Catalina that was at North Weald are you?

Good to hear that she is staying in Europe, she’s been for sale for quite some time now!

Will the new owner keep her in the same colours?

(Seen here at La Ferte in 1993 in formation with N320SQ)
