I’m afraid that I’m not very good at aerial shots and I don’t have one of those ‘all singing, all dancing’ cameras but I thought that some of you might like to see the Mosquito replica which was performing at the Aerotop display at Poitiers yesterday. And to add to that, the weather was perfect – clear blue sky, sunshine, a gentle breeze……….!

Cool old farts, who have cool old wives, who let them do cool old fart stuff … are cool.

Seventeen years, 33,000 hours.

“A completely crazy undertaking.”

“All that’s missing, are the Germans on the other side.”

And God-DAYUM that thing looks good in the air!

previous thread it had been said that they were Potez engines

I believe that was a temporary, expedient fitment.

Does anyone know what engines it’s using?

yes, two 6 cylinders from lyco or conti, previously used if I rememeber well on a aerocommander 580 (or similar number). I have a small doubt about the a/c type, because I believe the replica breguet 14 at toulouse is also equipped with the same engine from same type of aircraft, so a doubt on original a/c. sorry.

I’ll say it again, in my opinion that is a superb achievement by people who didnt just talk… they made it happen.
Looks even better now with the spinners and a period paint job. 🙂

Last weekend’s fête aérienne at Fontenay-le-Comte saw the official inauguration of the Mosquito replica. News footage of the event is to be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArL4HPusqEg. Sadly other pressing commitments prevented me from being there and thus from posting images of my own. But hopefully there will be another opportunity soon!

Actually it does not “revert” to F-P… the F-Pxxx regustration is the one “reserved” for the plane. But before being allowed to carry it fully, the plane must comply to a test flight program. While doing test flights, it is mandatory that it carries the F-W… registration, indicative that it is doing test flight under special permission and has not been granted yet its definitive certificate of airworthiness.

Here’s an example that is not atypical of the practice in France. Just apply one letter over the other with a piece of sticky tape! This one evidently had gone from F-P to F-W due to, I suspect, the installation of a non-standard engine. If I check the DGAC website, probably I’ll find that, by now, it has reverted to its F-P registration marks. It could have been that the sticky tape peeled off when the Mosquito replica was in flight!

Those engines sounds far better than I´d expected! And its speed seems more realistic too.

What a gang of people – doing what they dream about, not just talk about it!
