French Navy captain for RMN subs.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-06-02 AT 03:20 AM (GMT)]It is official now-tomorrow 6/6/02 RMN will signed a contract for 1 AGOSTA 70(ex French Navy)training sub+ 2 units of SCORPENE class SSK.The deal worth RM 3.5B is a complete package comprising training,parts and French Navy subs captain who will be in charge/training RMN before the new SCORPENE class delivered.For about 2-3 years RMN has to rely on the experiences/expertise of the French Navy officers in operating the subs.Both type of subs will be equipped with advanced sonar,passive towed array sonar, radar,ESM,mines, AIP, torpedos and EXOCET SM39.RMN intend to get additional 4 subs by early 2006 in order to strenghten the subs squadron.With this purchase RMN will be the second naval power after RAN to operate missiles armed subs in the region.RSN/INDO-N subs do not has missiles weapons systems.The AGOSTA 70 will be delivered ASAP while the SCORPENE will takes a few years to complete.This wont be the first time the French Armed Forces ‘attached’ their officers to
MAF -French airborne officers has been attached to Malaysian airborne

brigade before -as the result of that MAF bought the ERYX ATGW.
