French Stearman in big trouble

The pilot seemingly has an injured jaw, but all things considered got way very lightly, unlike the aeroplane.

This is not just a ground loop, or lost of control on t/o or landing. As the airframe disruption show, there is a major vertical component, enough to sever the fuselage and fold the wings forward. Perhaps a loop that ran out of height.

Damn that must have hurt.

Having to be cut out of your Ford Escort for an hour would be really bad, but to have your pride and joy (and investment) be gently cut away around you…………….unimaginable!

poor s*d.:(

Obtenez à puits bientôt mon ami, espérez que vous pouvez réparer votre avion.

Looks repairable, in this country it would end up as 2 Stearmans and a Tiger Moth:D

Come now everyone knows youll get a Vulcan out of that!:D

It looks very much like F-AZSH

Well that’s how it reads on the fuselage directly beneath the tailplane, as seen in the second photo of the series.

Hope a fulll recovery is made by man and machine

I am sure it is not ‘OBEE, but numbers can be changed?:diablo:

My best guess now would be that it is F-AZ** 🙂

Newforest, I do not think it’s G-OBEE, as the numbers are all wrong, but the colours ? well the wings are different ??? see below ???? Keith.

Almost looks like G-OBEE, but I don’t think it is. Couldn’t find a French machine in those colours unless it has had a recent respray.:)

Sorry, I don’t seem to be able to access the website of la Nouvelle République at present – and I didn’t read the report as I take le Courrier de l’Ouest! However I share the view concerning the Stearman being a tough old aeroplane. Cropdusters didn’t use them in such numbers just by chance! Oh and could someone please tell me which Stearman it was?

Stearmans are tough…one reason why the pilot did as well as he did.
Hope he’s okay…and the plane get fixed.
There will always be Stearman fuselages available as long as there supplies of steel tube and a welder.

Avion Ancien could probably do this far better than me but basically the french says that he ran out of sky during aerobatics and it took over an hour to get the pilot out who was taken away injured. By the looks of it he was very lucky to be alive at all.

Ouch… looks like he was flying alone, and just as well looking at the front cockpit.
