Friday Afternoon Teaser

Okay chaps this arrived in the post this week – lets see how quickly you can work this one out ?

Q1 – What aircraft is it from.

Q2. Where on the aircraft was it situated and what was it for.

Q3. Which squadron and squadron markings did it fly with.

Q3. What day was it brought down – where was it brought down and who were the crew.

Q4. What happened to the earlier less well marked aircraft code shown.

Q5. Where and when was the aircraft built.

Well done Sir. I had a Ju87 machine gun ammo tray cover last year – so was able to identify this part from what I recalled.

The RLM70 paint and Junkers gold anodising are also clues.

It doesn’t help that the machine at Hendon doesn’t have these guns.

Ju87 Left wing MG 17 cover.

The links for the aircraft details are:

Although no mention of 8701 is made – the adjacent werknummers were also in the same geschwader. So I assume it was damaged and used for spares.

Squadron was at Kirkennes in Norway attacking Murmansk at the time of the loss.

You forgot to add Q6. What are Saturdays lottery numbers!

Could they be the aircraft serial numbers? L5708 and L5701 were both assigned to Fairey Battle’s according to UK serials…. Just a wild guess on my part.

My gut feeling was also a Beau wing mounted intake. However, the 7 in the figure 5708 L is a European 7, German?
