From an aircraft? which aircraft?

I found this in my Grandfather’s attic this afternoon, I’m sure it’s some sort of RAF navigational aid, but can it be worked out which aircraft it came from?

It’s a Mk I plotter, the serial it says for those who can’t see it well, is 7237 / 4

That could be it, yes, I thought it was a / but it does look like a 41

Extremely unlikely and may in fact never have been fitted. Does the serial number end in 41? – that would date it to 1941.

I had an idea it would be. thanks Smirky.

Is it at all possible to pin down the exact plane via the serial, or is that an insurmountable feat?
