The flight characteristics of the Boeing 737-800 and the Bell Jetranger are not too realistic in FSX. Other simulators too. They don’t match the real thing. They are OK for procedures (NDB, VOR or ILS approaches).

i couldnt agree more really to be honest i was slightly dissapointed with it when i got it last year but it is a fun little sim and i do still use it and it runs well

I started with FSX and was quite happy with some of the features. The A.I. aircraft start and end at a parking bay and are fairly well disciplined. Most airports have some scenery and the only payware I invested in was a Bell UH1 helicopter. Roads are not well represented, at least in the default software. FSX worked well on my computer when it was new and relatively uncluttered. It now no longer performs as it used to, the frame rate has dropped so low I don’t play it anymore. The problem, according to a review I read, was that Microsoft didn’t exploit the CPU correctly, and they have since abandoned it, so that will never change now. I got into X-plane a while back. It has no problems with CPU exploitation. I even learned to create scenery and have done up some of the airports in South Africa, as only a handful of airports come with scenery. The rest you can get as freeware or payware, or do it yourself. You can see my scenery enhancements in another thread in this section. roads, railway lines and powerlines are derived from Open Street Maps and are therefore accurate to reality. Laminar Research release updates for the main program all the time. They have a 64 bit version now. I don’t like the A.I. aircraft behavior though, as they start at a point on the airport and sometimes do weird things like taxi over each other, crash and so on.

cheers
Ralph

This is a building I modelled in the correct place in reality. It is the building in which I grew up. In the background is the Moses Mabhida stadium, in Durban. I modelled both with Sketch Up.

Yes, IIRC you push ctrl P (or shift P, not quite sure) and then 1 for left or 2 for right.

Also chaps if your desktop is covered in icons this will use up alot of virtual memory. I have heard quotes of 1MB for every icon. If you don’t need those icons then delete them, or put them in your task bar as teeny weeny shortcuts.

First of all you should make end task to those applications that are unnecessary and using your virtual memory and making your processor busy in work. Than try it again.

My FSX does not work in the administrator’s account, only in the user’s account. I have 4gig/1gig ram and windows 7 home premium 64bit. My brother has it installed on a laptop and it seems to work in all aspects on that computer. Can’t wait for the next version, Microsoft Flight.

Um, what you mean like suddenly appearing out of the blue and giving ‘advice’ thinly disguised as a marketing attempt?

You’ll be very surprised at the tricks used, even for 1 hour’s publicity ๐Ÿ˜‰

Normally we can spot advertisers a mile off, we have an eye for them ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would be a little sceptical because you only have 1 post so far. What I will say is that the manufacturer is irrelevant to an extent, what is important is the PC specification, so I will say that for now you can post the spec then if the conversation leads to the manufacturer then we’ll go from there.

We’re not against recommendations.

Fair enough?

Dean

Perfectly fair – so here’s the spec…

Intel Core2 Duo E7400 running @ 2.8GHz
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD4350 graphics card with 512MB on-board memory
1TB SATA Hard Disk Drive
Windows Vista SP1 (configured with ‘Windows Vista Basic’ desktop and set to run for Best Performance)

DISCLAIMER: I’ve got a 60Hz monitor and the trial version of FSX (no Service Packs installed yet; I’m getting FSX Gold for Christmas so I’m not going through the whole installation, registration and activation rigmarole twice……) and this system runs FSX quite happily with the default settings, and only a little ‘stuttering’ when switching between views rapidly. I haven’t loaded any add-ons yet, and I haven’t tried upping any of the settings.
It runs FS2004 with all sliders maxed out* and I’ve ‘flown’ the Grand Canyon with commercial fast jet add-ons and had 60 frames/second without any pauses or noticable lag, on the display or in the response to control inputs.
*except it’s also set to not detect crashes :dev2: ๐Ÿ˜€

Hope this helps…

Moderators, I recently bought a new PC that runs FSX quite well but I know I’m not allowed to post commercial adverts in the forum – I don’t work for either the manufacturer or the shop I got it from, so am I allowed to mention it here or just in a PM straight to SOFTLAD?

Vista sucks. 7 is the way to go. FlightsimX tells you which are the best specs for your computer somewhere in the help menu.

That’s ok, appreciated, I am reasonably experienced when it comes to PCs and I have tried to build my own before but ended up buying one “off the shelf” as I could not match the price.
I guess alot depends on what machine you are building and how much patience you have ๐Ÿ˜‰

no worries dude, i suppose thats my personal experience, especially with top end gaming machines (hence the use of “usually” ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
