Have a look at the sister post to this. I thought it may be interesting to see who has the cheapest/most expensive fuel around.

So that’s an admission we are getting stung but can do nothgn about it? For a small fee, I’d like to do a magazine piece on who gets what for each litre of fuel. Wonder though if airBP and Shell’s PR would be co-operative?

Motorists are a pressure group. Look at the price rise protests a few years back. The fuel companies have to listen to them.
Private flyers are a tiny market in comparison, so have little voice.
Competition also exists in the road fuel market with filling stations every few miles and the supermarkets keeping the price much lower than the majors would wish.

The % gap between mogas and avgas has been growing over past 15 years from the scant evidence I have seen, so why has this happened?

ZIPPO L
Maybe they drink Petrol 😉
Give ’em a fag then, and a light and make ’em burp at the same time

Well, what I do know for certain is that I get RIPPED OFF if I refuel ANYWHERE in the UK.
Oh, its OK, dont worry. I am getting therapy to help me control the urge to strangle the greedy future leader of the Rip Off party and his future sidekick, the deputy head of rip-off Britain.

FUEL PRICE REDUCED !!!!
WLAC at White Waltham have just reduced price by 2p per litre so now only £1.26.
A welcome gesture, I suppose, but the timing may prove unfortunate, as with the present jitters in the global fuel market re Iran et al, there is probably a further round of INCREASES on the way.

Right, change of plan.
I am going to run my car on avgas.
By: GASML - 15th September 2005 at 10:37
Interesting comparison.
Just filled up the Luton Minor at Bicester. Windrushers Gliding Club member’s rate £1.05 per litre.
Filled up the car at Bicester services at £ 1.08 per litre.
Hey, flying’s just got cheaper!!
By: GASML - 15th September 2005 at 10:33
£1.16 per litre now at W.Waltham- No wonder the AN2’s moved out !
Might be time to think about mogas, it is just about worth the hassle now.
Surely you can’t be complaining too much, with your quiet, thrifty Cub!
While W Waltham’s famed for its ‘Gucci Gas’ as an American friend put it, I still don’t fancy the risk of sudden silence from the likely extra risk of carb ice or fuel vapourisation that Mogas offers.
If the Cub’s too thirsty for you, I’ll swap rides with you, with the 2.5 gph Luton Minor!

Yes Janie, as I put in the other fuel price post £1.37/ltr inc vat
Ouch!

From an American forum
“Boy, remember the good old days (last month) when Mogas was cheaper than Avgas? $3.42 @ SS for 100LL here at LAL. $3.45 for 93 across the street from the FBO”
Our price works out at US$8.70 for a US gallon, and they are moaning. I wish I could fill the Yak at that price!

The gap between mogas and avgas gets ever wider (yet there’s about 50% less duty on the latter!)
But a tad more quantity discount.

Does anyone know the Headcorn fuel price at the moment? One of the residents seems to think it is one of the most expensive in the country.

Bourn is totally utterly fantastic. Send my regards to Lyndsey and Brian if you are passing through.
By: BlueRobin - 24th May 2005 at 14:19
What’s wrong with Bourn? I went there last year and someone I met seemed to suggest the place was dying due to lack of GA interest.

Don’t expect much help from Little Gransden. They had no fuel on a Saturday morning and it was not delivered until 6pm that evening. We then had to wait for a settling period before we could refuel.
Just another in a long line of incidents there.
I tried to refuel at Top Farm but found that they are restricted to the number of movements they have so I could not go in.
The next nearest is Duxford, which means not only paying a large landing fee, but having a walk and a wait in the public entrance queue to pay for it! Very time consuming.
Henlow has a £25 landing fee.
Connington is great, but frequently in the wrong direction.
Suggestions for good places to refuel would be welcome.
I don’t have Pooleys to hand. Anyone know what Fowlmere is like for fuel?

Cambridge – A rant
I’ve sat and bitten my tongue on this for a while now, but can’t any more.
Weekend before last, I had a chat with our flying club about the trials and tribulations they’re facing at the moment, fuel being one of them. As of two or three weeks ago, we’re now being asked to land away to refuel, because Marshalls have pushed the fuel price up to a whopping £1.35 inc VAT per litre for 100LL. As I understand it, this makes Cambridge fuel THE most expensive in England at present, and is causing all sorts of problems:
1 – the hourly rates are having to go up because of increased charges anyway, and further increases through fuel are likely to deter members from flying.
2 – the training aeroplanes are having to venture outside of the local area to refuel, which equates to time on the ground during a training slot, which equates to lost revenue.
All the GA folks at Cambridge are feeling the pinch with this now, from the PFA guys through to the Tiger Moths. We’re gradually all being squeezed out, with nowhere to go.

You can always fill the details in here http://www.thehangar.co.uk/fuel/fuel.shtml
I like this idea. The website is not very up-to-date, but it wouldn’t take much for us to help out with that.
Please quote the ICAO in your posts if possible and I’ll do the updating if you like.
Have a great weekend.
