RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics
About the pics:
The carrier pic: It is a test for a high speed sharp turn.
The Hornet: Seems like a rather normal take off (At least I hope for the pilot 😉 )
The two Migs: happened at a meeting in Europe, and one of those birds fell very close to a Belgian C-130, damaging it.
The 2 pics with thw Hornet and the AIM-9: they are real. Apparently, a missile wasn’t tightened correctly (or something broke) in the rail, ans as a result, when the plane trapped, the missile was ejected
The DASH 80: I watched a ducumentary abouyt that flight, and the pilot said something like “I was told to demonstrate what the plane could do. I think this was the best proof that it was sturdy…”

Addonis.. the scary thing is.. Considering that is a White Pointer.. The scale is exactly right.. In fact comparing the size of shark to diver.. its a rather mediocer white pointer… the bigones can grow as big as 8 meters.. and there were stories of 10+ meters.. So something to think about next time u got o the beach :))))))))

Snapper,
A similar story to your one happened at East Fortune in Scotland.
A beaufighter coming into land set himself up on the runway and somehow managed to loose off a few rounds. He must have given himself a fright as he totalled the aircraft. I think he lived to try it again.
The report says pilot error as the guns should have been disengaged when he came over the coast.

RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics
Kev,
Yes, it is the 707 prototype, back then still known as the Dash 80. It was barrel-rolled by Tex Johnston when he felt there were enough people watching 😀
Gary,
Sorry, didn’t mean to copy your post! Hope you can forgive me, non-civvie minded me not visit AW forum often.

RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics
Arthur,
at the risk of making an even bigger fool of myself than normal, is the aircraft in your second pic Boeing’s 707 or 720 demonstrator which I believe was rolled by a man whose name escapes me?

RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics
No pix – but an email that arrived last night:
“There are a whole load of cannon shells embedded in the grass runway at Duxford. Peter Raw was coming in to land, and when he selected Flaps, the cannons started blazing. Gave him a hell of a shock. Someone had connected the wiring incorrectly.”
And yes, you guessed it. Peter Raw was with 609 (West Riding)Squadron.
A friend told me about an erk who fired off a bunch of 60lb RP’s at one of the 2nd TAF airfields in Holland one time. Took out a house I think he said. This chap was with 245 Sqn we think – he was RAF Regt AA gunner. He recognised some of the scenes in John Golleys book when I lent it to him.

RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics
Often wondered if that scene in Iron Eagle where the pilot of an F16 launches a missile while stationary to blow up a truck coming towards him could happen in real life …. Now I know.
Bladdy fast reflex’s from both the deck hand running out of the way and also the cameraman !
Wonder how the jet jockey explained that one away ?
I see on Airliners.net there is a piccy of a C17 that was being refuelled on the ground when it’s left wing broke at the shoulder joint !!!!.

RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics
That B-1 pic is a painting, and someone has mirrored the background (twice, both on the left and right sides) to make it a horizontal image in stead of the vertical one, as the original is.
As for funny pictures…

And for once in a while something else than an embarassed F-16…
