Roger – you have a PM!

Strange question – it’s not under any threat is it? Graham Vale and his colleagues seem to be going from strength to strength and have done marvellously to acquire and move all those aeroplanes from Long Marston.

Well the Aiport are adding a new viewing mound at the top end and there are plans I hear for them to possibly get a Nimrod that would slot between the existing and the new mound, so it seems to be positive……

You might want to clarify your question with a better explanation Spitfire.. The original post makes it seem that the Museum itself is under threat?

There are plans in the pipe line for a second hanger subject to planning. And yes we have been offered a Nimrod but there’s no dates on this yet.
like other collections/ museums we are always on the look out for new and different exhibits BOTH civil and military or parts to complete what we have already in the collection
We would like to see a better shop in the hanger than what we have at the moment, also better displays to RAF Castle Donington and local aviation,
And to those that will say it , yes we still have a lot to do on the Long Marston aircraft.
Regarding these the Hunter GA.11 is back in one piece the Hunter “FR.10” is still waiting it fin but both are being prept for painting.
The Jet provost is together and most areas have been primed. The nose leg was charged last weekend so it sits better.
The Chipmunk has had an undercoat on it and the wing have gone into store, this will be worked on when the sheriff moves out of the hanger in the spring, and if we get the second hanger it will go into it as will the Sea Venom which will not get much work done till nearer the time of the new Hanger.
The Gazelle has had the boom fitted and very little other work.
The Meteor NF.13 cockpit has been painted but needs the piece that fits between the cockpit and the nose cone so this can be fitted.
I am working on the Dove and want to do the ends of the wings and fuselarge before the wings are refitted any body know of any part we would be interested a new canopy would be very good.
Others on site iare also having work done on them like the Vulcan repaint the Argosy is having work done on it parts are being refitted to the meteor TT.20 the Buccaneer has had a main leg recharged and is having a clean the Hunter T.7 is having a repaint and as mentioned earlier the sheriff is really coming on now the tail unit has been fitted and is being painted
BUT THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT WHATS HAPPENING IS TO COME AND HAVE A LOOK !!!!!! 😉

What aircraft would go in the new hangar ?
By: TonyT - 31st March 2025 at 13:34
As they are putting an out of service date as the end of March it would be just prior to that one would assume, If the Aircraft is due a major maintenance check, it will be withdrawn prior to that check and delivered earlier.. that’s the norm…..

Normally it will get well publicised and will no doubt do a couple of final circuits etc before it lands for it’s last time….

if the nimrod comes when will it arrive ?
By: richellis - 31st March 2025 at 13:34

I hope so
I wonder what “platform” is going to look after the long distance SAR stuff and submarine sniffing when these aircraft are all safely tucked up/rotting away (select option carefully) in various museums? Capability holiday? Don’t go long distance yachting for a while, that’s my view!
Note to self: get yerself over to Aeropark and have a look – some very nice airframes there by the sound and look of it!
