From what I’ve been reading, the newest infared missiles on the block (AIM-9X, ASRAAM) are virtually flare-proof.
How relevant are chaff and flare countermeasures in the 21st century air environment? Do they still have their uses?
And how effective has active RF Jamming been compared to chaff/flare pods these past fifty years?
And how much promise do those new laser-based countermeasures hold? How do they work exactly? I haven’t found much info about it other than walls of text in PDF documents, which my ADHD-and-Prozac-riddled brain is incapable of reading. :p
Anything else in the pipeline?
Your thoughts?
