In the 80’s/early 90s there was the concept of the RAF Mixed Fighter Force pairing a Tornado/Phantom with a couple of Hawks, now I’ve seen a post on here talking about what aircraft the French Air Force should have given the price of Rafale (offsetting some of those flying hours with a cheaper trainer platform) do people anticipate that the RAF might end up in this scenario in the future in order to purely bolster the number of deployable assets?
Mixed fighter force of Typhoon and JSF obviously doesn’t seem to be a runner – but what about trying to maintain the engineering industry in the UK by getting BAE to spin out a Hawk 210 version of the T2 to introduce the MFF again?
Or am I just talking rubbish in an effort to get to the days of seeing airshows with more than 3 aircraft from 3 squadrons of front line fast jets that was seen at Waddington (3 squadron FGR4, 41 squadron FGR4, 617 Squadron GR4)??
