Have just been digging through a pile of pics and clippings passed on to me by a family friend that belonged to her late husband. He was a Lanc skipper on (I think) 622 squadron). Thought you might like to offer suggestions on the aircraft behind the RAF aircrew. I can only presume it was taken on a German airfield post hostilities?

awright fellas, got my hands back on my book!
What I can tell for now is that is a version between A7 and A9, or might even be a F8.
I am sure of this because of the cowling on the ground but above all because the cowl fasteners were moved from the top to the side cowl during developement. Is it possible to get a bigger scan of the pic? I might be able to get some extra details (I should look better at the cowl bulge).

Do you know anything about the people in the photo? Just interested as the tall chap on the right appears to be wearing two rows of fruit salad on his chest as well as aircrew wings – obviously been about a bit. Or possibly even three rows of salad, and no wings?

An ‘Air Commodore’ or above I suspect, looking at the shoulder.
I do like these old private photos.

It looks like maybe some small bomb racks outboard of the landing gear as well.

Some later “A” model with MG131.

my fw bible is resting in my modeling club at the moment, so I cant check it, but another particular that draws the attention is the engine cowl, it seems to be paint stripped or brand new, not an uncommon sight on late war battlefields.. seems like the belly section is not present either, u can fairly see the retaining fuel tank belts between the 2nd and 3rd chap.

probably a A8
Dont know anything about the BMW engine.
Gun cowling is on the ground in front. The F models had sidebulges on the cowling. This has none.
No bombracks, no armour plated glasspanel as on the Sturmbocks A8 R7 and A8R8,
So regular A8, although it has chevron markings indicating a higher ranking pilot.
And what that thing in the back? If nose is down it looks miles-ish, if nose is up looks Avia biplanish..
Gawd, i love these kinda pics… 🙂
Anymore in that stack?

It’s a BMW-801 engined ship – therefore I’d say a late A-model (A-8 or A-9)
