Not sure if this has been reported here yet, but on browsing the meiermotors news page I stumbled across a rather fruity image of the BMW801 destined for FW-190 White 1 (That’s a Focke Wulf, not a Flug Werk!) bursting into life.
Here is the link to the news page, scroll down to the 8th June entry.

After getting a taster of the Flug Werk 190 at last year’s Flying Legends, the thought of an authentic butcherbird flying leaves me almost delirious with excitement! :D:D
The running of the 801 must be a huge stepping stone for the White 1 team (White 1 Foundation) although, I can’t seem to find any offical news on their website or Mike Nixon’s own Vintage V12 site (the chap who is restoring the engine).
Can anyone else shed any light on this? Would love to know the results of the first run.

Are you sure that’s the White 1 engine? Those cowlings look kinda familiar…..
Incidentally, and in partial reply to Dave, the 801 is not designed to run uncowled. The pressure cowl is so arranged as to force air back through the oil cooler, which might, in part, explain any slight problems.
That’s an interesting point Bruce. I wasn’t aware of that. Learn something new every day…
I had a quick search on youbend and there doesn’t appear to be any video yet (wishful thinking?!). Would love to hear it in the flesh/metal!

Could it be for the one that was secretly restored in the UK, for a co founder of a big american computer software company???? :diablo:

That photo is extremely exciting!!! I’ve been waiting a long time to see an 801 running and cannot wait to see the videos!!!!!!!!
We used to run the one at Cosford? when I was on my course at St Athans, that, the ME410, that had a huge coolant leak and so was connected up to a handy hydrant, even the Tony…… interesting days and to be honest and excuse to lie out in the sunshine for a lazy afternoon, was done for someone recording all the engine sounds for a tape… (76 and pre CD) everything that could be run was, even the old Pembroke, used to train people Marshalling got a look in..

Go on Bruce spill the beans, do you think this is an 801 you are better acquainted with rather than white ones motor?
