FW-190A-5 in Japan.

During the war a small batch of Fw-190A-5s were evaluated by the Japanese, but were not chosen for service or production. What I want to know is why exactly?

International Air Power Journal Vol.3 has a rare picture of one in Japanese markings.

Regards, Glenn.

I’m allready getting the sandpaper out to repaint a few kits – any idea if they would have been Jap markings over German paint, bare metal or Japanese green?

More importantly, anyone know what happened to them?

RE: FW-190A-5 in Japan.

I guess it would have been been too expensive / technically complex for the resource strapped Japanese to bring into production a new type of a/c which was not markedly superior to anything in allied use.

I guess towards the end the Japs were trying to get a miracle a/c to give them a chance against the US. Also due to the petrol shortage in Japan, a lot of Jap planes were flying on an adultrated fuel called “ten-go”, not sure if the FW-190 could fly on that.

Just some reasons off the top of my head.
