I am the one who took the recent pictures of the FW58C.

Could you please let me know where I can find the informations that you mention concerning the salvage of the plane, the survivor, the two who died but are not in the plane ?

And Setter, what is the web page of the pictures you show so I can put a link from my web pages ?

The Info on the survivors/deceased came from “The Surviving German Aircraft Recovery Group” based in Cologne – it seems to be down today but I will post the address when I get home – They are supposed to be buried in a Nearby Village or were after they were recovered – they may have been relocated .

Hope this helps – I am no expert here just getting this from the Net – It is a facinating prospect if it is recovered – from the look of the pics it is very well preserved but they will have to be very careful with that rear Fuselage – it looks very fragile!!

There is a complete and restored Fw58 (actually a Fw58B Weihe) in the collection of Museu Aerospacial in Brazil and you can link through to a photo of it via: http://www.musal.aer.mil.br/links_aeron.htm

Without wanting to be insensitive to the crew member who lost mates in that crash, there’s no way an airframe in such good nick in a lake in mainland Europe is gonna stay at the bottom of a lake.
The interest in such a unique German aircraft, especially from Germany will be considerable.

That Weihe is in amazing condition. Regarding the survivor of the crash, I believe it would be appropriate to restore the aircraft once it is recovered back to its original markings, as a tribute to the fallen… despite having flown for the wrong side, they were still human beings and their loss made an impact on their friends and families.

Just my opinion, mind you…

By the way I looked into the wreck on a few sites and apparently the two deceased crew are NOT on board – in case anybody was thinking that as well as me

Just for those too lazy to look up what one looks like
here it is – quite a nice big lump of a machine and well worth saving

But …Oh..ok then….surviving crew member didn’t want it recovered ( two died in the crash ). A group has applied to recover it and await approval.

Nice one! Only a question of time befor this one is brought up. Being Focke Wulf there will be a few organisations keen on thgis one. Still, the sooner it’s raised properly the better.
