FW190 restoration to flight

Has anyone heard any news on the restoration of a FW190 to flight? I remember awhile back reading something about 2 restorations. One was a FW190 with a bmw engine and the other was a FW190 with a long nose and they were using an allison engine?

BMW engined 190

OK, I am getting on a bit now, so I don’t remember things as well as I used to. Maybe my fellow forumites can assist.

When I was in Florida again a few weeks back, I dropped off a propeller for an NDT check in Kissimmee. While I was waiting, I had a wonder around the museum (you know the one, they have a couple of Havards that people can partake aviation in). In there was the airworthy Molt Skycar, a few other interesting items, and a BMW engined 190 being restored to flight. The 190 is being assembled using the remenants of three recovered Russian aircraft and newly manufactured parts.

Is this the White 1 Foundation airframe?

p.s. while there, Tom Blair’s P38, P51 and Spit Mk V decided to fly as well. Ahh, What a good day to get a prop checked. The Spit got held up on the taxiway and had to return to the hangar for some water spray into the rad. The OAT on the day was about 100 degrees. Phew.

Question. Wasn’t there a Fw-190 project owned by RLM Aviation and did it get bought by the same person who now owns the Bestmann, Stieglitz, Storch and Klemm at Old Warden.

Yes, I believe ‘Hairyplane’ now owns the 190.

how on earth did they get to india?

Turkey had some FW-190’s in service, all scrapped? then again, the French had some as well as Russia – I’d say Russia is the best global bet to find something usable?

Paul Allen has an original long nose variant but there are no plans to fly it. The version with the allison engines are being made by FlugWerk. I believe Tom Blair has one in Florida as well as his short nose version at Duxford. White 1 are restoring an original short nose to flight and also one for static for a Norwegian museum.

Are you sure you’re not thinking of a Bf109E?

There were two 190s, something tells me it’s the White 1 Foundation, but I’m probably wrong…

Blast! Now i have to go look, but I’m almost sure it was a FW190 :p

Sorry, just had a look and YOU are right, it was a Bf109……

Is that the one found in India a few years back?

I think it was mysteriously relocated to the UK (channel islands i seem to remember) and someone is restoring it there.
