This new assault rifle in 5.56mm was released in public for the first time today during the national armed force´s parade.
Some years ago the mexican army revealed a plan to construct under licence the new HK G-36 rifle, but it seems that the deal was canceled due to higher than expected costs and a new mexican rifle, with some resemblance with the G-36 was set in to production. It fires the NATO standar SS 109 round.
The FX 05 rifle will replace gradually the old but venerable G-3 in Mexican Army and Air Force.

Saludos!

There are very serious doubts about the future of the XM-8 programme, many think that it is going the same way as the OICW.

Its not too hard to go and fit a new body design to an existing weapon. The yanks are doing it to the G-36.

The M-8 (currently XM-8) is being developed to replace the M-4 carbine in US service and even possibly the M-16 and is basically a G-36.

It definately looks very G36ish but there are a number of differences, the Buttstock looks different and there is only one sight as opposed to the 2 on the German variant. I would be very suprised if this is not a G36 variant.

Designing a new buttstock is hopeful not impossibnle even for Mexican industry. Besides that, I remember some replaceable buttstocks on G36s which looked rather similar to the one we can see here..

As with sights, the Mexican one we can see here looks pretty much the same as the german Hensoldt 3.0x installed on G36s. The solar red-dot sight (the one mounted on the very top) is replaceable even on genuine G36s, not all rifles are carrying one.. The whole top can be replaced by a weaver stock with fixed reticles..

Just noticed the flash hider has a slot facing downwards… they are obviously not expecting to fire in the prone position in dust or sandy environments…

The troops are carrying what looks like a varient of the G-36K carbine variant.

The Special Ops/Paras are using a variant of the G-36C by the looks of it.

The barrel looks rather short… is this a commando model, or the standard Assault Rifle.

Would expect with such a short barrel it might have problems like the M4 with lethality at combat ranges.
