So the old R&D/presedential hanger will be closing in October to facilitate the move to the new building 4. I for one find the old hanger magical. It feels like you are walking into a secret time capsule filled with all the exotic test planes you have always found so neat. You can walk right up to, and under and around just about everything. The modern hangers are no doubt more efficient, allow for more spread out displays, but are quite sterile, and have about 1% “charm” of the old hanger. See it while you can. I must admit I much prefer old dusty, musty hangers than shiny, sparkly, sterile museums.

It must be entombed Consul, in the times I’ve visited Stafford, I saw not a hint of it…

That’s a useful heads-up as it would be frustrating to be caught out if planning a visit. I went there in 2000 and luckily got on one of the trips to the outstation that contained the Presidential aircraft etc.

I see that the Dominie (Dragon Rapide) which they have will not be moved across to the new building. It is one of those chosen as less significant and so to remain behind and not clear if it will be accessible in future. At least they had the type on display for many years. That is more than can be said for the RAF Museum. As an aside, I recall seeing the RAFM example back in the day (1970s) stripped down at Cardington but its restoration was never completed and it is now entombed in store at Stafford.
