The old Southend museum Fiat G.46 arrived back in the UK a couple of weeks ago for restoration back to flying condition. Accompanying it were jigs for the wings and fuselage along with a whole bunch of tooling for the wings.

The airframe is all there with the exception of the fairings and a few other relatively simple items. What is, however, causing us more concern is a number of internal fittings which have been misplaced between leaving the Southend museum and arriving back in the UK. These could have been removed at any phase between leaving Southend, possibly while in “store” at Lympne or after recovery to Duxford during the mid 1990’s.
The parts we’re currently trying to track down are as follows:
Throttle (front and back)
Warm air/oil cooler door control assy (front & back)
Elevator trim control (front seat only)

If these are still in the UK it would be great to make contact with whoever may have them to see if we can re-unite them with the rest of the aeroplane. Additionally, if anyone knows the whereabouts of any other G.46 parts, large or small, in the UK or abroad (more likely!), we’d really like to hear.
We’re also after a Gipsy Queen 30 (and any parts) and a de Havilland bracket type propeller to go up front if anyone knows of an unemployed example begging to be put to use. Also a suitable spinner assembly, de Havilland Heron or similar.
Lastly, if anyone in the East Anglia region is interested in getting involved with a rebuild (particularly anyone with tin-bashing experience as there’s a fair amount of re-skinning and new structure involved), we’d love to hear from you.

Update
Just to give a very small update.
All the frames for the rear fuselage have been completed, with a few requiring minor repairs. We’ve managed to use all the original frames with the exception of the forward lower frame which was crushed.
We’re looking for suppliers of stringer material as some need replacing due to corrosion. The tailplane and fin attach brackets NDT came back fine and they’re in the process of being fitted. Next phase is replacing the U/S stringers and then skinning.

Gipsy Queen and Fiat Bits
We’re slowly but surely starting on the Fiat and have had a chance to go through and start to assess what we need for the airframe and engine.
Thanks to Anon’s help we can cross the spinner and back plate off the list. bits we do need though for the engine are as follows:
Vac pump………………..B3X
L&R Magnetos………….BTH Type CGD.1
Distributors
24 Volt Starter with 12 Jaw dog (also used on some Chipmunk, Provost and Ansons)
Dowty Hydraulic pump
Ignition leads
Spark Plugs……….KLG Type RC.5/4 or RC.9//2R or Lodge RS.5/7R or RS.9/1R
Carburettor……….Hobson Type AI55E/3
Any internals would also be useful – valves, pistons, etc. We also need a suitable rotatable engine cradle to buy/beg/borrow.
Any ideas would be very welcome!

de Havilland Prop Manuals
Would anyone have access to a set of overhaul manuals for a de Havilland Type PD170 propeller assembly. Thinking ahead to when the time comes to do something with ours we will of course need a copy of the appropriate manuals (and prop specific tools if anyone has them available). More than happy to pay of course.

I understand a large actuating rod for the flap system (?) was removed for incorporating into an engine hoist project when it was at Duxford…:eek:
Nothing would surprise me! If you happen to see it kicking around the place please let me know.
The undercarriage actuators are quite something – for such a compact aeroplane they’re bl00dy huge!
