True or not? Always doubtful of PPrune. ๐ Would be good if it is true though, to keep that DC10 in the air.

HELP…..According to a DC10 census G-BYDA used to be XA-SYE…. The TAESA DC10 that I had one of my worst flying experiences on back in 1996, Todays motto, NEVER AGAIN DC10 !!!!!

So are we saying that used middle sized long haul aircraft are a bit hard to come by just now ?
I recall a conversation lately with a Zoom insider who reckoned 2nd hand 767-300’s were what they were after, but they’d be b*ggered if they could get any, such is their popularity ?
By: MANAIRPORTMAD - 4th August 2004 at 19:34
I dont know if they would need any more B752s now, unless they are sending them back to Finnair then they could get them.
By: topjet330 - 4th August 2004 at 19:30
what about the ex MYT B757 fleet, for short haul options. They already use a Finnair B752 this summer

A strange thought but isn’t the reason the A300s are going because of the ‘D’ check requirement?
Am I also right by saying the 10-30 is also due for ‘D’ at the end of the summer?
In other words, are they not swapping one cost for another? (With the added difference of 1 v 2 birds?)
I would guess that a DC10-30 is worth alot more than an A300B4 hence it is still viable to carry out a D-check on the DC10 whereas the costs could outweigh the value of the A300s?

lets just hope a new livery will be on the cards
I’m sure it will be… It’ll be basic Airtours livery, with a great big yellow sun on the side, and Air Scandic up the tail.
As far as Scandic taking 10-30s is concerned, I believe that they’ve picked up some Caribbean runs this winter and 10-10s and A300Bs are a bit short legged for that.

Yep, 3 going spare from MyTravel, you would think that would be the better option.
By: wilag - 4th August 2004 at 16:37
Why opt for the DC10?, surly they would be better off getting a 767-300 cost less to operate and being a newer type less chance of it going tech. Plus there are loads around onthe 2nd hand market.

Never knew how soon the DC10 needed its D check, will be very interesting to see what happens.
By: Pembo330 - 4th August 2004 at 15:58
Thats still before next summer though.
By: topjet330 - 4th August 2004 at 15:55
G-BYDA doesnt need a D check until 03/05
By: wilag - 4th August 2004 at 15:55
I thought that the DC10-30 was life expired at the end of this year? thats why there -10 were retired first and this one later.

Ive heard this from various sources, but yet that happened earlier in the year when everyone said they were getting DC10s but they never did.
Pprune sometimes comes up trumps on the rumours, the A300s will be going at the end of the year so they will need something, lets hope its some DC10s!
