G-CVIX Sea Vixen Status (merged)

I was just wondering about the current status of XP924/G-CVIX. Is she being kept in live condition? Is she likely to re-appear in 2008? Despite the number of displays she attended in the last few years, I’ve always managed to miss her and I’ve never seen a SeaVixen in the air. I’m hoping against hope that there will be another chance to see her fly in future.

How do we go about donating? I can only donate a little but every little helps right? 🙂 I would dearly love to see her again.

Donations can be made by cheque/PO to “De Havilland Aviation Ltd” and marked “Sea Vixen” on the reverse and then posted to the address on the website:
Hangar 600
Bournemouth International Airport
Christchurch
Dorset
BH23 6DQ

Card donations can be made by phoning 01202 593600.

Many thanks for your support.

Do you think if it had RAF written on it the funding problems would be so acute?

Thats the first postI’i’ve ever seen form anyone who is directly associated with the vixen with contact details. Shame, moneys gonna be scarce as its being thrown into a rather large delta shaped pit ….

Well, we’re going to try the same approach… we figure if 6 million people can put in one pound for 558 – rather than one person putting £6m in – then the same ought to be said of the (currently) biggest ex-mil big bird on the circuit, and also British-designed, built, etc.

Although there are some very obvious differences…
1. Foxy is actually permitted and doesn’t need any more rebuild or test flying
2. Doesn’t cost a fraction in op costs
3. Won’t cost anywhere near like the show fees.

etc…

We at DHA have tried to find a corporate sponsor for the Sea Vixen to no avail, in the present political climate she is not green enough. We have recieved a few donations which have gone a long way to paying the insurance, however as always more is required.
It is not the avenue we were hoping to go, but we cannot be choosey, so if you would like to help please do so through our web site, dehavillandaviation.com.
In advance many thanks

Maybe two

Hi all especially PK who’s a hard man to track down

it’s a shame that 924 it’s on the ground, was hoping at some stage for her to pop into brunty and pose with XJ494

I’ve nearly got her stbd engine out now, and the port one was dry cycled 2 weeks ago to clear out the debris, obviously now i’m working on her i can understand the man hours required just for the basics on a vixen

What is the actual current status of the Sea Vixen? Is she airworthy and able to attend shows or is she stuck on the ground because of the operating costs? Will we see her at any airshows soon?

Thanks for the update Paul – good luck with it.

I could offer a permanent home for the aircraft, but hopefully, this is a way off yet.

Yes, it was taken from the Gnat, a very cool flight. And yes, I do think I am very fortunate!

Thought folk might like to see the attached pic – taken on the way back from Biggin Hill after the 2005 airshow. Sorry about the poor colour quality – the settings on the camera had got all screwed up!

Please can we put this RUMOUR about G-CVIX joining RNHF to bed once and for all. It’s not helping anyone to keep speculating.

I think there must be something wrong with my eyesight- i can never understand why some people think its a good looking aeroplane- i think its HIDEOUS!!

You should be shot! 😮 😉

I’d also love to get some news on her… been at least 4 years since I saw her display. 🙁

Last I heard, there was a rumour that she could join the RNHF however I think this was just a rumour.

its alright from the side, but from the front it looks bulbous and assymetrical sorry to say, i think that people now love the looks of these aircraft as they are becoming a rarer rarer sight in the sky 🙂
